Happy Birthday Rob

Thanks all. Getting closer to getting back on the Z3s. Spent most of last year and early this year not feeling great due to low energy levels and turned out to be my diabetes. Back under management now and raring to go but with a pile of stuff to catch up on.

My right-hand man James back from uni for the summer. We just have to finish off rebuilding his Citroen C2 and we'll be there. 114k miles and 14 years old now but with the price of second-hand cars we decided to chuck the money at a load of new parts to keep this on the road. Nice little car to drive. Horrible nasty little car to work on. Trust me, we are very lucky with BMWs.

Has chewed up many hours, ending up pulling the engine out to do all the renewals properly. It's now at the level of rebuild we do on a Z3 with all new everything on the front end. Except I can do it on a Z3 with my eyes shut. This things is all new to us and support from forums is nowhere near as good as with BMWs.

Pull it out. Spend weeks discovering the Citroen parts catalogue is horribly wrong while you find the right parts yourself from trial and error.

Great to have the little legs back to help over the summer.

Finally got the engine back in and connected last night. Suspension next. Hopefully a lot easier going back than coming out. Everything was corroded and much needing cutting off. Citroen make life more difficult than it needs to be with things like M12 bolts with torx heads that round out.

Pleased you have your Diabetes sorted Rob and back in the saddle. What a lot of love to give a C2 but they are of better quality than my wife’s old Saxo now that was a pile of sh*** and that was from new.

At least your son will have a sorted daily driver and can continue to build up his no claims.

Yes that’s the idea. It’s been in the family since it was 3 years old from a main dealer so we know it well. I wouldn’t do all this to any C2. And it is a facelift diesel which is sought after - probably £2k worth of car currently.

You wouldn’t believe how many knackered parts you find once you start, I’m used to it on 20 year old Z3s that I drive but it’s a bit of a shock when your son’s safety has been at risk. The ARB bushes were virtually disintegrated. One of the engine mounts flapped around in the breeze. Inner & outer track rod ball joints badly worn. Some of this stuff you just can’t really tell with the engine in as it’s so miniaturised and tight in the engine bay and as evidenced by years of clean MOTs.
