You can use it to pump out the engine oil potentially quicker than letting it drain through the bottom of the engine I guess. Just speeds oil changes up, but probably has a few extra uses like easier draining of the gear box oil.

Some cars, like Smart cars, have no drainage hole in the sump and you have to use these, i.e. trip to the garage/Smart dealer.
A lot of Smart car owners had an after market drain hole and plug added so that they could do their own oil change or had to buy one of the above.
 
Too true Mike, and if you don't get the engine (and oil) good and hot before hand it takes ages to get the oil out this way. It's painful, a stupid idea. I would much rather get an engine hot and drain it over night if possible, I like to get rid of ALL the old stuff.

Very true Tony, that is what I said to the Smart dealer, you will never get all the crud out with a suction tube.
 
That's my old school mechanic take on it Mike, I was taught as a youth to drain an engine asap while still hot/warm. These ex Halfords guys at ours don't do that until they compile a list of add-on work which they trip up to the manager with like a dog bringing a ball back to the boss.:mad:

ps. That's not to say I couldn't find a good use for this, possibly as a powered suction brake bleeder. Would be very interesting to try it.
 
After I had the engine rebuilt on the Smart, the older blocks last for about 50 to 100K and mine blew up big time, turbo the lot and that happens right behind your backside, I had to go back for an oil change after so many KM, and the stuff came out like it had just came out of the bottle and that's when I asked the guy about what was probably still left in there..........!
This car was just used as a town run about as that is what I thought they were built for?
Oh, and I could get 12 crates of beer in it, can only get three in the boot of the Z.......:(
 
Was it last week Miller was asking for more turbo's on here, well the next day the 1st test was a Smart and I thought, I know I'll take a picture of the "Mahoosive" turbo that lurks, as you say just behind your backside, and post it on here but I was distracted.

Did you have to get at the sparks on that? That is supposed to be a right bi***.........
 
It is.There is very little straight forwards on those toy cars. One of the lads had to replace the wiper linkage on one a couple of weeks ago, it didn't resemble a car when he finally got the old one off. The latest incarnation, by the way does have a drain plug, at last.
