Well in my youth a (very long time ago) I played about with a guitar and got nowhere. Sensibly I gave up and never touched a guitar again for about 50 years. When I retired I thought I'll buy a guitar and it will give me something else to do. I bought a really tatty Stratocaster copy and plonked about on it for some time and then decided it was pretty useless so I sold it. So no guitar again for quite a while, then yesterday I was passing a secondhand shop and saw a really nice guitar. So in I went and bought it.
Result ; I've been at it since then and guess what ? It sounds just as bad as the last guitar I had, or is it me?:arghh:

at least you are as bad as before, not getting worse is a plus in my eyes

Look, the way I see it, there is very little difference between me and Eric Clapton. He's a bloke with a guitar and I'm a bloke with a guitar. OK, I'm a tone deaf, talentless idiot, but I see no reason why that should hold me back.=))

And ££££££££££££££££'s :arghh:

Could try a trumpet, providing you have a shed at the end of a long garden.

I have gone through the guitar stage on a couple of occasions, I learn't quite a few tunes and classical Spanish sounds very impressive and its rather simple, I learn't from youtube.

At least you're consistent Ken=))

Let's hear you play on here and see what we think :p

We are luck to have the SAGE music venue nearby and they have links with the Newcastle School of Music. To keep pensioners off the streets, and give the tutors some amusement, they run a "Silver Programme" to teach born again rock stars how to play musical instruments . Basically anybody over 50 is eligible and a wide range of styles and instruments are covered. Perhaps there is something similar in your area.

Practice is the key and musically talented friends for some coaching. My dad took up the base and ended playing in a group. They made two albums with the proceeds they paid for there studio time and equipment so you never know he’s 75 now old rockers won’t die and all that.
