Grumpys on a fitness plan.

Cross trainers are very good according to my Fitbit Monitor 30 min on a cross trainer at 15kph burnt around 400 kals you can also use it as part of a circuit type training 10 min cross trainer then a floor exercise back to the cross trainer and so on for around an hour would burn loads of calories

Lots of good advice on here.

Running is just too hard on your body.

The indoor exercise machine is the way to go, cross trainer or bike, and then just walking as much as you can.

I do a 45 minute stint on my bike, every now and then I go flat out for 30 seconds. Pulse goes up to 165 or thereabouts. I then let pulse drop to something around 125

I'm 46 and I reckon anything over 170 pulse rate isn't a good idea, certainly not for long.

Plus, if you overdo the exercise you'll just get really hungry and often eat more calories than you've just burned.

Diet wise eat chicken and fish, red meat twice a week, cut down on carbs but you must have some, don't go atkins the headaches will drive you mad.

Drink at least 2 litres of fluids per day, that's where most people go wrong, they overeat because they're actually dehydrated.

Everyone is different, but what works for me is eating small (300 calorie) meals every three/four hours through the day, maybe a few more calories for your main meal, and gentle exercise with the odd short blast.

Good luck mate, but seriously, go easy on the running.

I can do maybe 15/20 mins on a treadmill before I convince myself my legs can't go on =))
Or I can happily go cross trainer for over an hour. I usually do 3 mins forwards steady, 1min forwards high resistance then 1 min backwards. Repeat as often as possible. I back the fluids thing, more water I drink less hungry I am, rubbish as I drive most of the day haha.
If I'm in hotels overnight I just do a 25/30 minute fat burner off youtube.

Great work mate im on the same i'll not hit 13'6 but i'll be happy dropping to 14 which seems my body's stable weight.
Started at 15s 12lb now at 14s 12lb its helped the hands too been sore but they are desensitising which is great.
Same goal as you first hoilday abroad for me in May since 2002 !!
Good luck mate try the fitness section on your Fire stick lots of good cardio in there
Cheers mate. Baby steps, no pain today after the run so things must be easing a bit already

And swim if you get chance, great exercise with much less stress on your joints.

Swimming is great for getting conditioned but limitted to how many calories you burn due to it being a supportive sport. Swimming would not be much use as a way to loosing weight on its own

It depends how you far and how hard you swim. Leisurely breast stroke is like a gentle stroll and won't burn many. 30+ minutes pushing hard, alternating strokes burns a fair few. Having a good technique is important. I have done the Swimathon several times and can guarantee that certainly burns calories. :)

I can sense a ZRoadster slimathon coming on

On yer marks ....... get set .......

As it happens I could do with shedding at least 3 stones, so I'm up for it if anyone else wants to volunteer

Agreed. Swan in the School boy National under 15 championships in my youth and did my 10k, you won't find any swimmers of even a moderate level with "love handles".

I don't disagree. But for Mr Joe blogs looking at loosing weight, then swimming won't achieve this on its own.
Unless you are a really strong fast swimmer then you will need to about 2 hours swimming to burn around 500 call but you can do this as a novice on a cross trainer in half the time. People who do cycling, swimming and running also incorporate some form of other training to assist with maintaining fitness.

A mixture is best all round otherwise you go stale.

Never seen a skinny walrus =))

Even with everything that has happened to me this last week I will attempt the cross trainer tomorrow to see how I get on and to try and keep fit to help with the recovery.
I will be happy even if I can only do 3k instead of the 7.5k I was doing. Baby steps comin back from injuries

80% Nutrition 20% exercise lost 2" off my waist since Christmas following LDNM Cutting guide, weights will help more than just cardio as your muscles continue to recover up to 48 hours after you have used them, for cardio i use HIIT, do it properly or not all, ditch diets they do not work as it is all about lifestyle mate.

That's what b******* me up the HIT. Tried cutting call and just doing cross trainer and did not loose any where as much as I did doing HIT. I mixed it up doing 60 min HIT to a different program every other day and a 7.5k cross trainer on the other days at 15kph. Then I seemed to loose 2lb a week. I know I could of lost more but no real benefit in doing it too quickly

I started off doing 30 mins then upped it to 60 then pulled me abdominal muscle as the 2nd HIT was all abs based. So did not last fckn long lol

My "high intensity training" is a 30 second blast at maximum, to the point I couldn't carry on.

Then 5 to 10 mins at moderate allowing pulse to settle in the 120's

Then another blast.
