Last Saturday the tumble dryer packed up.No bother, had it ages and it was one of those that had the 'fire risk' update so happy to take it to the tip and pick up a new one on Monday. Tuesday the dishwasher packed up! Again, had our money's worth, but a bit miffed about having to buy two new appliances when that money could have been spent on essentials like upgrades on the zed. Anyway, we had the dishwasher installed in the empty house before we moved in years ago because there was no plumbing for it, but I never liked how it had been done. The waste pipe connection under the sink was poorly thought out so that it had to do a 'u' turn in a tight space kinking the pipe and at the connection to the dishwasher it was very difficult to access. So I had a new dishwasher delivered , but decided to improve the plumbing installation myself.
I set about the work ranting and moaning about the stupid way the pipes had been installed, took everything out from under the sink and put it in the hall. Took the bottom parts of some of the kitchen units off to access the waste pipe around to where it was connected to the old dishwasher, very inaccessible, plus then had to move the washing machine to get to the rest of the pipes. I pulled out the washer and had to put it in front of the sink unit, but needed to disconnect the pipes to get proper access. This is when I found out that with all my ranting about the incompetent plumber I had forgotten to turn off the stop tap! Water pressure too fierce to reconnect the pipe to the washer, water spraying the kitchen, had to move the washer from in front of the sink cupboard, dive onto the flooding floor to reach the stop tap at the back of the cupboard. Much 'effing and jeffing' ! Well after all that I've now plumbed everything back in a sensible and easily accessible way and as a bonus the kitchen floor is the cleanest it's been all winter.=)) The moral of this story is, don't let a grumpy ranting ill-tempered old fart start a job until he's calmed down.
