Guys and Gals

I was asked at Horwood House if I would think about planning a major event for 2013 so I think it would be a good idea if I asked for suggestions. My thoughts are that we would include a hotel for socialising at least for one night, and maybe more if people fancy it.

This is an open thread asking for ideas and who would be interested "Banter" IS expected please. A poll and refinement will come about from other threads when we start to refine for the event itself. I do not plan to exclude other forums but will only be posting and planning here. Forums like the M's, Coupes, etc will all be welcome but the event IS a Zorg Zed event, that means Z1, Z3, Z4, Z8 and it would be nice to have all along.

Some thoughts I have had are:
1) Goodwood, either festival of speed, or Revival with a stand for Zorg doing the whole event. (Would require a core team then others could do odd days)
2) Joining in with a BMWCCGB event like Gaydon with our own stand this is a one day event.
3) Next years NEC Classic if we can get a Club Stand this would have to be for the three days. (Again would require a core team and others could do days)
4) Getting in touch with Nick Wright at BMWCCGB or Steve H and plan a Zed only track day at one of the tracks (not everyone would need to do the track)
5) A combined attendance at a major event that is to take place that a number of people would like to attend.
6) Adding it to Yockys Santa Pod day and make a weekend of it maybe getting and setting up a Zed cup (in classes) for the quickest Zed's
7) Maybe a cruise over three or four days staying at a couple of hotels say round Scotland (I do not yet feel capable of organising one abroad for the numbers I think we would like to get together, maybe in a year or so)
8) I suppose I should include the Silverstone Classic but I feel we have done this one so a repeat is unlikely to be as good. I think this is better left to BMWCCGB and we can help support them if they decided to do it again next year.

Right open to comments and suggestions please

As I said the event is open to ALL the forums! however I am NOT prepared to do what Ian C (MyRedZed) does {I take my hat off to him} and trawl ALL the forums.I want anyone from .NET that will join in to come and add to the fun but we need someone to co-ordinate with the other forums and not just .NET but the other Zed forums as well. You have a strong desire for the .NET fraternity so I guess that is you volunteering to co-ordinate across to their forum. Well done and many thanks for that. Now all we need is some more people to co-ordinate with the other forums Z-M's Z1,Z3, Z4,Z8, Coupes and any others that people can think of. Volunteers please!

I am not expecting hundreds but I would like to see us get around 40 or so if it gets into hundreds I will need even more help I am sure!

As I said on my first post Ideas please.

Hi Duncan,

Great Ideas - I would love to go to Silverstone again and be better prepared for a 'parade lap' :D the classic weekend had lots to entertain most people, or a track day would be good, and most of all, a bit further north would be great for all of us north of Manchester :ymhug: and would be willing to help with any organising that may be needed :ymhug:

I like the idea of further north but it diminishes the need for hotel for quite a few people, and for me the idea of hotel and socialising as we did at Horwood house appeals. I even like the idea of choosing a hotel in Scotland and negotiating a deal then using it as a base arrive friday, Saturday and Sunday doing a few cruises and leaving on the Monday, but I'm not sure it would get the numbers? and The scottish contingent might feel they get the rough end of the deal?

Thinking on your comment about Silverstone and taking my Santa Pod Idea maybe I could approach Silverstone and ask for a series of races for each class limited to 20 ish cars a race to do on the Classic day? not sure if it is do-able. Silverstone where not very communicative, and I am not sure how many people would want to risk their pride and joy racing, hell I'm not even sure I would. =))

A track day would be good..
Lake District run?
Wales run? (Just for Hornel)

Did the Derbyshire cat n fiddle run last year which resulted in a 3 night stay over in a great hotel which was used as a HQ then had drives out each day which worked well.
A similar setup where people had the choice to go on the drive or do there own thing in the day would be great.. Then all meeting in the hotel for the evening meal..
Something like that would be good..

Im not talking of racing our zeds :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o i meant like what we did at Silverstone only a bit more spaced out and a FEW practice runs :D

We have hotels in the North you know =)) and we have some fantastic zedding roads and passes up here, but as you say, the majority are well below Manchester and that would mean the majority of members having to travel a fair distance so we will keep our roads in the Lake District for ourselves and the odd straying zed ;) ;) :ymhug: (only kidding, sort of ;) )

And I do intend to join in one of your cruises up there sometime sooner rather than later I have loved the lakes every time I have been over the last 40 years! and I do think it is a good Idea to keep in the pot.

I have arranged a cruise to the Lakes for the last 2 years, doing a 1 night stay over, there is interest for that area but Scotland seems not to attract many, even though i would love to cruise around there. the date is the most important thing and also doing some thing that attracts different types of drivers.
I would suggest if you are doing a cruise and there is enough numbers then split it into say 2 groups. ie those who want to go at a pace and those who want to drive a bit slower, but have catching up stops along the way, otherwise there wont be much socializing.

Billz, thats a bit of an under statement if ever there was one - A Cruise !!!!!!!!! i remember being left in a cloud of dust within 500yds from you rascals, dots in the distance :(( :(( :-*

The only full cruise i have thoroughly enjoyed (apart from my regular cruises with Snoops) was Duncans from Horwood to Silverstone, i know im in a minority here but thats what i call a CRUISE, a cruise to enjoy and all staying together, not having to keep up with everyone :D That might be an idea for a poll but maybe not, there might be only me on one of the options :D

I think we should be able to accommodate multiple cruises! I'd be happy to head up a more sedate cruise, while the rascals head for the hills.

We should certainly add it to the wish list Duncan.

There has been mention before of doing a South to North wales run, maybe thats an option with stop overs along the way. Should be able to get quite a few interested as Wales is accessible to quite a few as Taffzees runs prove.

A PM should be kept private not aired or critisised publicly for other members. Mods should know better

an unfair, pm was sent to me from duncan, totally over the top.

its nothing to do with a moderator.

i wont be spoken to in that tone, especially because i only asked for .net to be considered.

That's correct billz, PMs are implied as being Private Messages by their name. However, they are covered specifically in the forum rules and any member has the option to 'report' a PM to the moderation team.

If there is a problem then please escalate it, otherwise can we refrain from slanging matches please.

Thank you. Gary
