Finally after 3 weeks got car back today

Fresh mot
Both sills welded and looking sweet (mechanic said it was a long winded pain in the ass job)

Got some fresh super unleaded in, and now needs a good run to see how it all works after being stood for 7 years.

More tomorrow... hopefully all good

Drive to work last night , wheel wobble 40 to 50 mph, I think wheel balancing
Car is quite hesitant to pick up but once at 4thou it gets more urgent 2.8 1997
Got a sticking rear caliper as there's s faint noise osr, that I kinda expected for being stood for so long

The drive home this morning was more spirited felt more responsive so hopefully the new fuel is helping (super unleaded)
But there is still slight response delay up to about 2....2.5thou from idle .

Going to keep driving it today on nice spirited roads and see how it pans out

Overall the car is very planted to the road, heavy clutch, and heavy steering and fat tyres help, wind noise is as expected but seriously love this thing ....

So as a comparison... and a very loose one ... I drive a toyota hiace van mostly, and drive very occasionally my mustang which is auto and has double the power and torque of the zed .

You may find your 'wheel wobble' is a sticking front caliper. Pretty common problem.

That noise from the osr brake could be a bit of crap between the disc and backing plate but is more likely hand brake related. In my case one of the little springs that hold the hand brake shoes against the backing plate had popped loose and was rattling about in there and eventually jammed up making a slight continuous scraping noise.

I don't usually rev it that high (a lifetime of being conditioned to drive diesels), but when I do it's intoxicating

Is that how the 6 cyl cars work? No poke till over 4000 rpm? Bit naff. Surely that can't be right.

My 1.9 (M44) pulls strongly from as low 1000rpm as long as I'm in the right gear

I wondered if the vanos seals may need replacing.


The 2.8 is a train when on song, the vanos works similar to hondas vtec just quite as needy as the honda, they pull to 9thou
