Don't take the battery's off and chuck then in the boot or this may happen. A colleague of mine watched this car go up shortly after getting off a Scottish inter Island ferry (lucky). They made contact, sparked and went up, no amount of Autoglym is getting that out.

Just imagine the effect if the battery had ignited the car fuel tank, and spread to other cars on the ferry . . .

If ever you carry individual batteries you should always ensure they cannot contact each other. New car batteries come with plastic protective caps on the terminals, even AA batteries are packaged to keep them separated.
