Gookah's Progress Journal

I can curl my finger underneath and press the relevant buttons

I keep a tiny well trained primate inside my glove box, to work my remotes, curling my finger round got too tiring. ;)

So I decided to fit some Daytime Running Lights, but was spoiled for ideas.
This one started off a possibility but stuck out a bit far so was scrapped:

So I decided on some of these "eagle eyes" instead

Originally I fitted two per side in the blanking plate by the fog light,

They were bright , even in daytime as can be seen here:

Anyway my son G8JKA copied me.... :wtf: but fitted 3 per side and made his flush, so I was not happy..
But, after stripping them apart and fitting them flush, mine are now like that too....

Not the photobombing dog, but this:

complete with senders and Prosport guages, Volts, Oil temp and pressure.

I decided to carbon wrap but this time in a brighter blue than before.

I think I will roll this colour out to steering wheel tabs and the door trim.

Onto the gauges, and more importantly sensors, fitting is not without issues.

Oil pressure sensor just fits into a tee, branched off the oil filter housing

However with the oil temperature, when fitted in the tee, it means it sits in cold static oil, and its much the same problem if its in place of the sump plug, that also reads colder than normal so I thought I would experiment

This involved buying a cheap (£15) filter housing:

and being able to see where it would be best placed to fit the temp sensor so its in flowing oil.
Incidentally there is already a temperature sensor in place in the housing

but that is already used for ECU reasons,

but it gave me a pointer as to where else would be good.

So I drilled and tapped a 1/8 bsp hole to mount it...

Now I just have to find some time to fit it.. the console is in, but not the filter housing as of yet..

I keep telling him to get rid of it for another Z3

Well you're obviously talking to the wrong person Dave;)=))

I thought he was working on the new series of the Grand Tour. . . . . . .

I love/hate these updates. Love seeing what can be done, hate the fact it make me think mmm...something else to do!

Amazing Z’s, love it!
