My first thread, please excuse handwriting..last year North Yorkshire council chipped half of their roads up the dales, this year they are doing the other half seemingly. My bonnet looks like a screen shot off minefield and to cap it all I’ve just had the windscreen cracked, it’s too big to repair so new one is in order. That’s £75 for me on the excess. I have been considering getting the bonnet resprayed but a friend suggested getting it wrapped. Local garage reckons about £180, with lots of colours to choose from including a carbon fibre look. Guaranteed for five years against future chips. I can have flames, lightening flashes, M sport stripes and lots of other wonderful logos, but not sienna red to match the car! I’ve never come across wrapping before but it seems to be the in thing. Has anyone tried it?

Wrapping can be an answer to your problem but be aware there'll need to be a certain amount of prep. similarly to having the bonnet sprayed. You could get it painted then have a clear protection applied on it. Lincs. Council Highways Dept. are currently doing the dame on local roads too. I got splattered a couple of weeks ago which put at least 5 chips in my screen.

Tony.

One of my mates does wrapping for a living spoke to him a few months ago about putting a wrap on my 300k skoda superb bonnet which has a good number of stone chips plus lacquer peel and he told me I would have to get the bonnet sanded flat before the wrap was applied as any damage that was there would be highlighted by the wrap.

I have done a full restoration on my 2.8 and painted it Austin yeloow, I put it on the road in March this year, approx cost incuding labour would be in excess of £15k, due to the dressed roads in my area and spiritd driving it is peppered with stone chips so wouldn't blame anyone for using wrap, I will be having back in the bodyshop this winter to put it right, if I still have it that is ;)

3M Satin Bitter Yellow wrap on my old Z4, definitely recommend it to anyone considering getting it done.
