The gearbox in my 2001 2.2i sports is very notchy, especially 1st and 2nd, I am considering replacing it, does anyone know if any other variant will fit as its highly unlikely to find one here in Northern Ireland .

Could be the little bush in the box. Mine is quite bad when cold but easys as it warms up.

You can replace the bushes & pins in the gearbox yourself, I got the parts from my local dealer, just got to get the box out.
There is a write up on here somewhere with a list of the parts you need cost about £50

May be a daft question but have you changed the gearbox oil Rob?

Yes, tried that tony, no difference........
I would still go down this route. Every notchy gearbox I've come accross I've changed the fluid and all has been well. Only one I've ever had to changed all the shift pins on.

How long since you changed the oil? I've changed mine twice in 12 months for the same reason first change made a slight difference second time with ATF as recommended by OPIE and after about 600 miles it started to get better, now much better.

Just changed about 100 miles ago, might try the ATF, worth a go......

Hi, I'm in Derry/Londonderry, I rang that place, it's called Gardiner transmissions, I'm going to visit them shortly.
A meet up with the z's would be brilliant, unfortunately I'm working over Easter.......shift work :bashhead:
