So when your Z3 has the CDV fitted, and you change up at high RPM under power, you will get MOMENTARY clutch slip, as if you were slow to bring up the clutch pedal
Mine used to slip for maybe one second as it engaged.
If the clutch continues to slip, or it does it when you put your foot down in gear, then it is probably in need of replacement.

There are a few threads on this subject. You can do a search on this forum, in fact if you look at my posts l started one about it last month.
Also you can google "BMW Z3 CDV REMOVAL" and you will get various articles and discussions on there.

It improved my Z3 3.0
I took it out, then put it back in, then took it out again, so l did try both options back to back.

My thread on here was "CDV, in or out?"
Have a look at that.

I did buy one, and because as you say it is better in every way I sold it to a mate, and got back in my Z3. It was a phenomenal car, but just lacked the soul the Z3 had. Always smile more in the Z3, than I ever did in the Z4.

Frankie, a man is never lost, just exploring unknown territory. But with the guidance of a good woman we can be lead down the garden path to ask for directions, eventually, sometimes, whenever,

And then the fighting starts!!

When l bought the Z3 l thought, let's change the trans oil. So l went to the auto spares storeand bought two litres of gear oil "hey, it's a car gearbox, let's put gearbox oil in it"
No, no, no l was told, your gearbox will fall to bits, your synchro hubs will become metal flakes attached to the magnetic drain plug, you will ruin the bearings, etc
So l went back and exchanged the gear oil for the Castrol product, which Castrol themselves say is OK. I put it in the transmission and it did shift better.
But no.....this is the wrong oil! It's too viscous, it's going to wear out my gearbox, changing will be "sticky"....what kind of alien transmission is installed under my gear stick, that cannot survive on automotive transmission oil, used in just about every other car on the road!! lol

I had a similar gearshift issue but it was from 2nd to 3rd. It was a hassle whilst the gearbox was cold, but improved as it got hot. Subsequently I replaced the clutch about 2 months ago, and discussed the problem with the specialist... as I started to mention the issue, he interrupted me and said he knew exactly what causes it.... Turns out, there's a small piston with a spring and ball at the top of the gearbox which acts to "centralise" the gearshift as it passes from on gear position to the next. The hole into which this little piston fits gets "sticky" with residue / gunk over time. He said that the cure was to remove the mechanism and "hone" the barrel and piston. Anyhow, he did the clutch renewal and also the mechanism honing etc... the result is as new clean shifting between gears... unfortunately the gearbox needs removing to get to the area where this menace lives, so perhaps it's a problem you will need to live with until the time for a new clutch is required.
Oh, and changing the gearbox oil will not remedy this sticky mechanism...:(
