Garage here we come

Waiting on the phone call :nailbiting:

Are we still waiting! I can't bare this :nailbiting:

Hi all sorry about the wait .........
Here's what is wrong it's not good but not bad :p

Auxiliary belt drive ( has only 2 things on it , it's meant to have 6 )
Offside front ABS sensor damage / broken
Expansion tank is split
He's doing the work Monday as got to get the bits for the Z :)
Hopefully on Monday I'll have my Z back ;)
He said it shouldn't be driven ( so I've left it at the garage ) :(

Hope all goes well with the repairs and the expense is minimal!

Could have been much worse with your symptoms. Your right not to drive it like that. Not a bad outcome I suggest.:)

The price wasn't too bad £320 :p
But I don't know if that's good or bad , but it's worth it too me ;)

I just hope , that , that is the problem and all will be fine on Monday :p
All the lights go on the dash board and the leak has gone , :)
I'll be most upset if the problem don't go :(

If the garage is competent they should have diagnosed accurately. Have faith!!:)

Yes I know ........:p
But I'm a worrier :(
I'm sure all will be fine :)
Well I hope it is =))

Its not the head gasket which is the main worry with mayo and water loss combined so in that respect it's good news.

Yes it's good news Dave :p
Can't wait until Monday so I can get it back ;)

Mayo on BMW 6cyl is a sign you are not driving it (hard) enough, any volunteers to give it weekly thrash, bit far for me ;)

What you're saying disturbes me. Usually, the reason the oil has a milkey white residue is because water has contaminated it. In your car, the systems that contain your engine oil and coolent are separate systems. The main reason that the oil turns white from contamination is a blown headgasket. In point of fact, this is the HALLMARK SIGN of a blown headgasket. While your mechanic did not give you that verdict, I would ABSOLUTELY ask him if he performed a compression test on the engine. There is one more complicating issue here: the blown expansion tank. The leak in the gasket permits the compression of the engine to blow air into your cooling system. Since this system is sealed, the compressed air has no where to go and therefore builds up pressure. The coolant system cannot handle that kind of pressure so something usually gives out. It could be a hose or the radiator, but in your case it was the expansion tank. I could be wrong as it could just be a coincidence that these just happened at the same time but the chance of this is extremely high. Have your mechanic DOUBLE CHECK THE COMPRESSION.
The engine has an aluminium head and I believe an aluminum block. When the engine heats up, the metal expands and of course contracts when it cools down. The head gasket must keep a proper seal in its placement between these two engine parts. After thousands ot times the engine heats and cools and all the pressure placed on the gasket over time, It can fail sometime in the life of the car. It's not your fault most of the time, so don't feel bad. Please let me know what any retesting reveals......................Frankie
