Not many people know how to temporarily disable them when on a ferry; alarms go off when waves appear,
Thanks: this is very helpful.Part of the cars alarm system, it lives in the left hand boot well and if the boot leaks gets filled with water and drowns the sensor by shorting it out. Disconected it will not detect any movement of the car when its locked and the alarm is set.
Thanks: I don't know what the auto electrician did but it's sorted. I'll ask on Friday though to find out.pgunter mentioned elewhere that a repair patch lead is available if the loom is so badly damaged cutting the bad bit out leaves the wires too short to make solder repairs. Its a kit from Germany and not over expensive.

If you're happy with his work ask if he would be happy to get a plug on here. Good Auto Electricians do not grow on trees. Thanks: I don't know what the auto electrician did but it's sorted. I'll ask on Friday though to find out.

Top job @colb well done for helping a new forum member, this is such a great placeView attachment 96383
Had a look at Julians car today and found the cause of his central locking shorting out. Loom of Doom again which was diagnosed by forum members.
Stripped back and soldered back together and heat shrink put over individual joints, loom re wrapped and fuse replaced.
Central locking restored.
Just got to replace the aerial grommet next as this is letting water into the boot and has drowned the tilt sensor in the boot well. Tilt sensor has been removed and plug has loose wires, these have been insulated with tape and tucked away.
Is there a problem leaving the tilt sensor disconnected is the next question.
OK - a little later than I had anticipated: the guy is a mechanic who can turn his hand to lots of things including electrics. He's stacked out with work and says he's very flattered but he's not able to take on any more work at present. I did try...If you're happy with his work ask if he would be happy to get a plug on here. Good Auto Electricians do not grow on trees.
