Hello everyone, hope you are well same as yours Bimmers.

My fan won't start causing the engine to overheat in traffic. I decided to check the fuses first. The fuses under the hood are good, so I decided to find fuse (48) under the glove box. I assume that is the right one, 40 amp matching with fuses description. Please advise me if I have found the right one.

I also found the orange plug not connected to any wires. Does anyone know what it is for? Please look at the attached photos.

All the best to you guys and looking forward to hear from you.

Kamil.

If that plug isn't connected now it never has been. They don't "come apart". These looms have many "spare" connectors all over.

I just put in a brand new fuse, waited until the temperature on the gauge reached 12 o'clock. I checked it and the fuse blew. Hmm... I am not sure why.

I can move the fan by fingers but it is not spinning smoothly, I can feel little resistance and when I stop turning it, it stops immediately.

That's a strange place for a fan fuse IMO. It's either an aftermarket fuse, or specific to your region (ie not USA or europe) as I can find no mention of a fuse in that location anywhere in the Bentley's book and I definitely don't have one there. Fuses 16 and 40 (low and high speed) are for the electric fan on USA and European spec.

If it is fusing the fan, then as said, your fan is either seized or the motor has a dead short when power is applied.

That is too stiff.

You could try turning on the air-con with the fan connected. I would expect the fuse to blow. Now try the same test with the fan disconnected.

This is Fuse 48. It is in location P97, is located under LH side of dash and is part of the auxiliary fuse box.

See the bottom of page 284...

Sounds like it's as it should be.

I found it buried deep in the Bentley's 'fuse locations' page.

Not there on my car, so I am wondering if it was a factory addition for optional a/c on early cars? As mine is a later car and had a/c as standard, could it be the fuse boxes were changed around? I know there were a few 'extensions' to engine bay fuse boxes added over the years.

As said, my electric air con/ auxilliary fan is protected by fuses 16 and 40 in the engine bay box.

If you look at section 6450.6 in the link I posted, there are two or three different options for how the air-con is wired up.

TBH I have much more pressing things to worry about with mine; like how to get the body to fit without panel gaps you can get your arm through! ;)
