I have this week after a few meetings with a local company, signed on the dotted line, and placed an order for the manufacture of a prototype pair of straps.
I have had an order acknowledgement and they are scanning a standard set which I located and bought, and which are almost pristine, so dimensions should be acurate.
The new ones that are being produced will be a form, fit and function replacement, made from thicker mild steel, and finished in a black powder coat and supplied with the foam cushioning, but each one as a two part strap.
Once I have the prototypes, I will do comparitive weight tests and also try them out on my car to ensure that they can be fitted without the need to remove the rear beam/axle assembly. ( which is the whole point of this)

I know from previous posts that there has been a fair bit of interest in this, so if all goes well, I am thinking of ordering a production batch of 100 sets.

I’ll upload pictures of the prototypes once I have them.

Cost....no exactly sure yet......BMW versions are currently priced at about 112.00 the pair plus there is the cost of removal of the rear end to add to that.
I estimate and hopefully will be less, somewhere round 75.00 - 80.00 per pair to include the new foam cushion plus nuts and washers ( probably 8 of each). Plus postage.
I haven’t included the two cable guides, as these may be recoverable from the old straps, but I do know the part number should anyone need it. ( or just use a cable tie)

I have been following your exploits with this for a bit now .
Looks like you are finally getting somewhere :).
I would definitely be another one of the interested parties for these :)

Good work @Mazza Put me on the list also, and hopefully after all your input they will be a success. Was under the back end this w/end prepping for MOT and had a good look at the straps and they are just starting to show their age, so would be handy to have replacements ready.

Brilliant, glad this is now active again. I was just about to pull the trigger and get some made but I'll hold off for now and order 10 of your sets when they come in :D

Can see this being an item worth changing with every subframe build.

Not sure on whether these straps are standard pattern across the roadster & coupe models? If they are I’ll put details up on Z3 Coupe Forum if you don’t mind as I’m sure there would be some takers on there.

As far as I can work out there are only the two straps across the whole range of Z3 variants,
Part number 16111185025 Support shows it to be for Roadster and Coupe all engine sizes and years and for European and USA Market

16111185029 Tension Strap shows to be for Roadster and Coupe all engine sizes and years but only European Market.

I found this picture which may be the USA version with an additional bracket mounted on it.
Perhaps one of our forum members across the pond could confirm this.
