Morning all.

Im replacing the front suspension struts on my 2001 1.9.

Just gone to refit them and there is a small non-threaded stud on the new top mounts but there doesn’t appear to be a corresponding recess for it where it mounts to the car.

Does it need to be aligned anywhere in particular or am I missing something here??!

I've asked this question before and it's something to do with if the top mount is being used in an e36 application, but can't quite remember the exact reason and can't find the thread. It doesn't matter which way its pointed on a Z3 though, is my understanding.

Actually, I went out to have a look at mine and understand the question now. On my car, there is a recess in the bodywork for the non-threaded stud, but the replacement top mounts I'd bought didn't have the stud on them.

I have removed this "extra stud/locator" before as its sometimes not needed.

Thanks gents - after much head scratching I removed them with a set of mole grips 👍

As Punch and Judy said, "That's the way to do it!"
