I am hoping somebody will be able to help with a problem on my 08/99 2.8 M52.
I have decided to replace all the bushes, steering control arms, drop links, track rods etc. Calipers and discs
On dismantling it became apparent that there's quite a bit of corrosion on most of the bolts and its still on original Sachs shockers. So the job expands as the splashguards are pretty shot and the 'Kingpin' is very rusty too.
I am not looking to track day my car so am happy to use Autodoc stuff at what I consider very reasonable prices. My problem is that I can't find anywhere that lists the kingpin as an available part.
I have found the naming of this part quite confusing, in the Bentleys manual it's the 'steering arm'. It carries the wheel bearing, off the bottom of the strut.
If I get the bearing off I may be ok to just give it a damn good clean....do I have an option of replacing them ?

Hi Ant
Well that's not a bad idea....but one of the reasons I bought a Z3 was that even I can understand the thing, and hopefully work on it and avoid garage hourly rates ;)
I have the considerable advantage of having ColB, in Newport Zshed, on my side when I need it but it's already in bits and I'm trying to decide where to draw the line on new kit, what to do whilst it's in peices and what to just put up with:whistle:

If your referring to item 2 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CK92-EUR---Z3-BMW-Z3 M&diagId=31_0418

Note that yours will be different part numbers though. They are quite a meaty lump of metal so should cllean up ok, just take it all apart protect the shaft that the bearing goes on and clean all the rust up. I’ll be doing that to mine next weekend. I’ll follow my usual process of grinding the rust off with an angle grinder using flap wheels, wire brush attachments and with a dremel for the tighter areas. Apply phosphate acid to clean, then paint with two pack epoxy paint and given a key afterwards and spraying with hammerite black. You could take them to a powder coaters to have the work done as an alternative.

Bearings seem fine to me so I've decided not to rip it all apart as it would mean two new bearings.
I'll just clean up the splashguard as best I can and re-assemble when my new shockers arrive.
Thanks for the input guys
