Mine's foam and suffering after 25 years on the road. An online search reveals hundreds but none that are to me 100% certain to fit my 1998 Z3. Can anyone point me towards the correct (and maybe more modern?) version?
Thanks guys; already I've learned here that they're a 'dust cover' and not a bump stop, so a search for that gave me a lot more options.
That's all that is holding back refitting my new front struts, I like doing things properly (including replacing the front brakepad wear cable that someone has cut off and which will annoy me until refitted.)
Lol can't even get the front strut off; the two lower bolts are solid, even the impact wrench won't shift them. I don't want to shear anything. I'll refit brakes, exhaust etc and get it back on the road then my local mechanic can free them with proper heat and professional know-how. If I can get the bump stops in advance they'll be ready for him to fit on reassembly, so would like to identify them before removal to save time.
I’ve had those lower bolts really tight too. I have never had one break though on the many Z3s we’ve done at the Shed. Use a 30” 1/2” drive knuckle bar and a 6 point impact socket. Once you loosen them apply plenty of freeing oil and retighten. Keep doing this till it comes out, which they will.
I think I'll cheat as they may require serious heat to free up. My local professional did rear struts on a Freelander for about £80, so I'd guess not far off the same for mine, if he shears anything then he is better prepared to sort it out or find a replacement bolt off the shelf than me. I'm just getting lazy in my old age!
