I am wanting to fit front fog lights, I have bought a pair of correct lights for the front bumper. The wiring is there at the front just behind the blank plates plugged them into the lights gone to dashboard and no fog light switch. The rear fog light switch is there but not the front. I can see where the little round switch has to go but it has a blank in it. So question is if the plug is at the front and wiring will the wiring be there for the switch. Also I'm assuming that the front fog light switch is right next to the rear fog one.

I fitted fogs to mine and just removed the single switch and replaced it with a double . the wiring is already done and it just plugs onto the back of the double switch
. There is also a relay K47 in the main distribution box for the front fog lights. find attached BMW Z3 electrics in PDF format

Now that may explain things, we fitted the fog lights after respray I fitted new switch which as you say has the wiring attach behind old switch on a blank. I did check the feeds first befor connecting the switch and confirmed there was power to it, but the lights would not work so because the lights were second hand I checked the bulbs with a meter they were ok but when I checked the feed to he bulb connector nothing, so I checked the fuse and that was ok so I was starting to scratch my head a bit so your post may have saved the day fingers crossed I will check for a relay tomorrow thank you.

Make shure you buy the correct relay , as some are normally open and others normally closed contacts.. K47
is shown as a normally open contact so is made when the coil is energised.

I think I may have to bite the bullet on this one as I can't tell from diagram what is where and looking at the diagram the rear fog lights and front fog lights go through same relay and if that's so then the relay is ok because the rear fogs work fine. As I said I have power to the switch both on rear and front parts of switch the bulbs test ok but when I pull plug off back of light there is no power. I'd have thought if it were a fuse or relay I'd not have power to the switch any ideas would be appreciated.

Why BMW made the wiring for the front fog lights so complicated is beyond belief . why they couldn't have come strait off a fuse to and iluminated switch and then to the fog lights is I suppose too simple for them, it just means that they will not work unless the head light switch is made also.
