Mower I'd Like to Fix =))

What did you lot think I meant? =))

There's some beauties here, this will get the old boys blood pressure up.

We went to Trerice Manor near Newquay, last summer which is a National Trust location and they had a selection of old lawn mowers in one of their stables. While I was looking at them an old boy came over to me and told me about the "Old Lawnmower Club" and that I'd be made welcome if I wanted to join up.
As an engineer I'm always interested in old machinery and every now and again I'll visit the website for a catch up.
As an Agricultural Engineer I'm sure @t-tony will appreciate this link that's if you're not already a visitor.

I love really old garden machinery, it is all so solid and well made. Actually got round to using this yesterday, it used to belong to my grandfather and he inherited it from someone else. solid cast iron with a beautiful ball bearing action. I have also got a lawn mower of similar vintage. :)

If anyone wants a road trip to near Hull , I know a farmer who collects heavy metal. Old crawlers, cranes and diggers , none of this hydraulic stuff , gearbox and chains all the way. Oh and he has an armoured personnel carrier ( as you do).

I adopted an old roller soon after we moved here. That was 30 years ago. The metal casing around the concrete has completely crumbled to rust and the wooden handle has rotted away to nothing. I see a re-build coming on. Any got a metal forming machine

I got myself a MILF too...

When using that MILF, just be careful what you put between the rollers.....

A Ransome Marquis 18” is the other mechanical love of my life. All be it at my Parents’ (where the Z3 workshop is too). Complete with the most gorgeous BSA Sloper engine. Haven’t got my own photo but it looks like this one.

That's what my Dear old Mam called a mangle/wringer which we used to operate for her as kids Pete. After she boiled the washing in a "Copper" way before the days of her "Rolls" Twin tub washing machine.

Tony.

IF it's fine tomorrow I'll drag my restoration project from behind the shed and take some pictures. I was only discussing this with my brother yesterday.

Tony.

Yes Tony remember doing that for my Mum in the early 50s before my elder brother got her a second hand English Electric washing machine with a wringer on top. Geoff

So WHO’S horse did you borrow, Mike???????

This thread has prompted me to disinter the old mower. It hasn't been used for about 3 years but straight away cuts perfectly. the same beautiful smooth action as all old machinery.. Cast iron rollers and good qulity steel blade, hardly ever needs sharpening. Unfortunately the lawn hasn't recovered from last years drought, the ground is so sandy here that as soon as it stops raining the grass dies.
