You are naughty! :ymdevil: Martin needs to keep an eye on what's hidden in your house... Probably a set of alloys under a duvet in the airing cupboard. Lol

Buy a Noble. I tried the 996Turbo X50 and I found it heavy and too precise.
TheNoble M400 put a bigger smile on my face than any other car other than a friends F40.
No ABS no traction control just a pure drivers car. I wish I had kept it!
The 3.0 and the 3R are just as much fun.
As a word of caution, a good friend recently bought a Caymen GTS and now misses his V8 M3!
I knew he would.
Good luck with your search
Thanks for the info. I test drove an M3 v8 Alpine edt. I thought it was a bit....Meah.... :( Bit disappointed, but the sales person said I needed to get it up above 5500 rpm to feel the real experience

I think he just missed the brutality of the BMW. The Caymen is faster but so flattering. Having said that we had it all out of shape on some twisties, lol. Driver error of course.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Porsche’s but I love more the anxiety of getting in something and feeling
“If I don’t respect her, she might just kill me today” ha ha.
Hen you compare the Z4M to the 3.2s Boxter, it’s the same thing, to get the best from the BMW you have to wring it’s neck.
The Noble however is easy to drive in town but then super quick and razor accurate but still needs some talent and attention.
I just prefer mid engined cars without driver aids, no Alexa, no Apple, it doesn’t make the tea, it doesn’t wash up
but the passion and excitement is why you love her :)

I agree with this. I drove my dad's Cayman S a couple of weeks ago and the chassis is sublime, it drives REALLY well.

But to drive an M as quickly is a bigger challenge and I think I would miss that from a weekend toy car.

I'd hard a cayman as a daily though!

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Ok, so I've done it! Picked up our new toy, sorry about the rubbish pics but I will post some far better ones soon. 2002 996 Turbo fully loaded inc theX50 upgrade, giving factory fitted larger turbos, re maped ecu, and sports exhaust. Hard shell electric sports seats embossed. Triple black, FSH mainly Porsche and a couple of specialists. Probably over serviced, actually done every 3000 miles!! Now showing a poultry 55,000 miles on the clock. but not in body or soul

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Not quite as enjoyable to drive as the Zed at the mo as its soooooo bloody fast! But I'm working on taming her. Spoke to an M specialist Jame Paul and they are happy to dry store the Z4M and sell her. I will be most upset I know as she was the 1st... But I'm keeping the S54 Z3, the E46 m3 and the Z4m coupe. So I will still have my fun. Here's a couple more pics, as we all love a pic.

All I know about those x50 cars is that they are savagely fast and can make an e46 330i feel like it’s going backwards at 100mph!

Enjoy!

Great looking car and agree about the comparison with the M. Far more efficient but not as much fun. You wait until you take it abroad and you can cruise at 160MPH + all day long, provided you can pay for the fuel! Good luck in selling the M. I found to actually sell my old car you had to go way below the price of the ones that are currently being advertised. James Paul know the ropes though. Cridfords in Ewhurst are a good place to look after the new addition.

I now have an update on running costs of the Porsche. At 60,000 miles and 12 years it had a full service at the main dealer. In September of last year that was taken into consideration when I compared the first 12 years cost with the Z3M. The Porsche is now 13 years old and done 70,000 miles. A few weeks ago it was slow in changing gear so I took the car along to my local Porsche independent specialist who has 30 years experience. I also gave him the file of all the work done on the car since new and he said he would look at the car and the file and then discuss what he felt needed to be done. The next day he rang and asked me to come in a review his findings.

I was quite surprised with what I saw. Car on ramp with the wheels off and rear bumper removed.

He recommended a full service to include new coils and spark plugs. They were the original coils and the plugs had not been changed at the last service. The gearbox and diff oil had never been changed nor the filters and that should be done. With the front suspension the CV boots were leaking and the two front shocs and suspension bearings needed changing. With the rear suspension the two lower arms needed replacing. We then came to the exhaust side. Most of the attachments for the heat shields and support straps had corroded and one of the turbos was starting to leak due to corrosion. A new turbo from Porsche is £4000. However, he knew a company who could overhaul the existing turbos. What amazed me was his comment that corrosion in these cars of exhaust and turbo fittings is common. I asked him to remove the corroded parts for inspection and a few days later went back and went through the items. The work now is almost completed at a cost of over £7000.

Conclusion although the bodywork, engine and gearbox of the Porsche are robust some of the other fittings were not up to the quality as those found on the BMW Roadster.

Surely if you had a major. Service at Porsche and the plugs were not. Changed and the corroded parts not pointed out a re visit may well be in order and show them what's been needed! Slightly concerning..

Yes but to be fair main agent for BMW cracked the cylinder head in the ZM and overfilled the 5 series with 2 litres of oil. My faith in main agents is not high and I think there is little chance in getting any compensation. My feeling is get a good experienced mechanic in the marque and work with that person and check as often as possible. There is an awful amount of BS being promoted. The phase "buyer beware" is becoming more relevant these days both selling, buying and servicing.

If it wasn't for the stamp in the service book, I would be far happier and confident in my son and I doing the services.... Oh yeah, and have more pennies in my pocket :)

I have posted on here previously on the competency of main dealers in detail.
One of which was BMW Cooper Norwich. Avoid them at all cost! As for BMW Colchester, they are great, or were when I had experience of them.
As for Porsche, I only have experience of Porsche Colchester and they also were great.
However, I fully believe that a good independent (Specialist) is always a better option.
Do your research and go on reputation. They can’t survive without recommendations these days.

Any place is only as good as its staff. It's just the main dealers rely on computers rather than hands on knowledge and charge you 3 times the price for the privilege. I used to work in the main dealers, one German brand and one main steam and I wouldn't trust any of them.
