Hi Guys
So it looks like I may well be making a new purchase this weekend and the dealer has made me an offer for my Z4m roadster. She is absolutely gorgeous and it has been a year debating as to weather I should or shouldn't but, Saturday will tell if I can. Anyway, if anybody is interested she is mint with FSH and recent inspection 2 at coopers BMW, new tyres 59,500 miles. Only covers about 500 miles a year as I have 1 or 2 other cars. I have owned her for about 41/2 years. Only mod is a factory fitted Alpina spoiler
PM me if interested for further spec. I'm offering it at P/X money to you guys
£13.800 private plate not included and will go back on a 56image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Well, we went to look at the car today and left with a mixture of emotions...fantastic car, great condition and we were actually more impressed than what we thought we were going to be. The wife, Reece and his girlfriend all agreed, for a 15 year old car it looked fabulous! The test drive was, well.... An eye opener, the girl who took me was a drift racer, scared the S&@! Out of me and when I drove it, made me look like I was off to waitrose, LOL. But the sticking point was it was advertised with full main dealer and specialist S/H, Alas this wasn't the case and there was a large gap of 5years and 10,000 miles between a service :wtf::banghead::sorry: Not good.... The search continues .....

Isn’t that enough searching? Surely a sign to keep the Z4M?

What did you go and look at or is that a secret until the big reveal?

image.jpg Reece was trying to persuade me more to this... Lovely but not my thing. Funny how it's his dream car though

After over 17 years of ownership I had to move from the Z3M to this. Only reason for selling was I could not easily get in the car with the roof up.

I have driven the Porsche over 6000 miles and I can say that it is much more efficient in every area. However, it is not as much fun to drive.
Think very carefully about getting rid of the M

That looks gorgeous! I am fortunate enough to keep hold of my Z4m coupe and S54 Z3m so alongside my E46M3 coupe the Porsche will be a great addition and if it wasn't for the wife's input I would keep the Z4MR too

Can’t afford any missing service history on that. Expensive beasts to run at the best of times.

Your comment set me thinking. How expensive are these beasts. Being retired and a bit of a nut I decided to compare the running costs of the Z3M and the Porsche 911 turbo(997 version) since I have owned both. I have looked at the costs of both cars over their first 12 years. With the M the costs of servicing and parts including tyres was taken from 1997-2009 and the miles covered were almost 71,000. During this time half of the servicing was done by the main agent and half by specialist independents. In addition I had the vanos and rear diff rebuilt rather than replacing the faulty units with new OEM parts. For the Porsche the same costs were taken from 2006-2018 and the miles covered 67,000. During this time all of the servicing was carried out by the main agent and all replacement parts were OEM.

The average extra actual running cost of the Porsche was about £200/year over the 12 years. If I take inflation into account and the extra cost of the labour for the main agent then the Porsche is no more expensive to run, and possibly cheaper than the M. I admit that could change. If I need one new ceramic disc then that is £4000 but then I had to have a new Vanos unit for the M after 15 years and that cost over £3000 with fitting.

The weakness, in terms of costs, for the Porsche has been the front radiators and for the M it was the Vanos system. Apart from that fairly similar expenditure. Now I appreciate that there are cheaper ways of running both the cars but at least I feel that this is a fair comparison.

Great review of owning both cars and very helpful. I was under the impression that the 996 turbo Is a pocket friendly super car, if there is ever such a thing ;) I do like the 997 but enjoy the retro feel and possibly better driving connection of the 996. Which is what I love about my Zed's

That’s a pretty fair assessment. It’s too easy to get pulled into a decision based on your heart without knowing the consequences. When you’ve looked at lifetime costs based on your own experience it gives you confidence to go with your heart.

Hope you find the car that ticks all the boxes

KEEP THE ZED :D
You don't make things easier, do you ;) good to hear from you. Nothing is certain as I do loooooove my Z4R. Just fancied something different and I'm only allowed if I sell one apparently :(

Sell it to yourself under a false name. Nobody will notice and you've met the obligation!

Buy a Noble. I tried the 996Turbo X50 and I found it heavy and too precise.
TheNoble M400 put a bigger smile on my face than any other car other than a friends F40.
No ABS no traction control just a pure drivers car. I wish I had kept it!
The 3.0 and the 3R are just as much fun.
As a word of caution, a good friend recently bought a Caymen GTS and now misses his V8 M3!
I knew he would.
Good luck with your search
