We're both booked in for our flu jabs tomorrow as it's the first time we have been eligible and it got me to wondering whether it's actually worth it or not.

We're both in our mid fifties, neither of us are going anywhere other than a once weekly shop and as things currently stand won't be able to go any further, any time soon. Winter is almost over and we'd have to have to repeat the whole process again the end of this year or early next year.

Seems to me that going for the vaccination would actually be exposing us more than not going.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.
 
We had our flu jabs at the local Docs early October Keith. We were given a time to arrive, waited in the car till a minute before, waited in line 6ft apart . Once in the door asked for names, walked through into separate rooms, injected and out through the back door. Couldn’t be any simpler. Inside only a couple of minutes. Your choice but I would have it.

I'd go mate. The Super markets are a likely venue to pick up the disease. Security in your back pocket for the future. It only takes a short while to become infected, my Sister-in-Law is a Police Officer in the West Midlands, without realising she took it home and within a day husband and 2 kids got it. No lasting impact but so easy to spread.
 
Definitely worth it, my mate almost died of the flu Christmas 2019, got out of hospital just in time for the first lockdown !
Had a similar experience to Tony when I got mine this year, very efficient at the docs, straight in and out

Had my first one ever 2 weeks ago.......within 48hrs made me ill, vomiting, headache, tired........never again, still not feeling well. Don't let that put you off though not everyone's the same and it could have been something else (not convinced of that though)
 
I don't get flue or bad colds (touch wood) and have never had a flue jab. My wife always has it and gets side effects, so no thanks.
Also I won't consider jabs without manufactures product liability in place.
Might wake up dead one day though!
 
Had the flu jab for 13 years since I had heart surgery and never had anything more than a bit of ache in the arm, and not every time.

I had never had a flu Jab until last year when I was seeing the doctor for another matter and he persuaded me to have it. This year I thought it would be a good idea with everything else going on. No side effects at all.
 
Had my first flu jab a few weeks ago now,arm ached for a day but then all ok,
while I was there I was offered a pneumonia Jab at the same time, never heard
of it before but went for it, a jab in each arm😳😳but again all ok
 
I’ve had the flu injection for years now 🙂
Never had any side effects 🙂
I’ve only had the flu once and I ended up in hospital, never want the flu again 🙂
Normally I get everything going around ,as I’ve got a low immune system 🙁
But the injection works for me ,never had any bother with it 🙂
 
We hear a lot about the term efficacy nowadays with all this coronavirus chatter about various vaccines boasting an efficacy rate between 60 and 98%. The current flu vaccine (which has to be modified every year to cope with this ever changing virus and we hope Covid doesn't follow suit) has an efficacy of (next slide please) 45%
So at worst you might risk side effects as the flu vaccine actually contains an element of the flu virus and still be unlucky and catch a dose. Or you may get lucky and find that 45% protection does the trick for you.
The choice is yours. But as someone also in his mid fifties I find chocolate and real ale has fended off the virus for the last 20 years....side effects?...oh about 20kg's. I'll probably consider it if I get to 70 and don't have some massive heart attack in the mean time.
 
Its about reducing risk.

Anybody can pick this virus up, anywhere, at any time. Touch the wrong surface in the supermarket (or anywhere else) and away you go . . .

I still haven't seen anything that says people packing your Amazon or Supermarket delivery cant leave a trace on a surface, it seems to have the ability to last long enough to get to you. But you have to have some life . . .

None of the jabs are 100% effective either. But all you can do is reduce the risk . . . I would go . . .
 
We decided to go ahead with it. Carried out at the doorway of the Nurse's room in the waiting area, which seemed a bit odd. However, it's done now.

Does this make us officially old? It was bad enough when I became eligible for SAGA products!

Yes, but we don't know the medium/longer risks associated with taking the vaccines (5 different ones/sets of risks now?). Note the pharmaceutical companies are not taking any product liability risk (risk entirely passed to Government I believe) and will make zillions. Big business and politicians have a major interest in all taking "the jab". I shall bide my time.
 
What about the rest of the population having a major interest in all having the vaccination?

This is really about the Flu jab not Covid. That's a whole different story. However, the greatest advances in everything come in times of need when money becomes no object.
