I'm changing my door hockey sticks for the OEM matt chrome.

Has anybody found a good alternative to the BMW circlip #51418144600

Just looks like a regular starclip but the cheap ones online (eBay) see below.

... these are just not flexible enough to go on. Tried 4mm and 5mm.

These little blighters are £1.30 ish each from BMW... a pair of hockey sticks have 36 posts... So silly money for something so simple. I know that there is a YouTube video demonstration of how to melt the posts with a soldering iron but tbh the plastic feels different to the regular melted tabs on the inside of door cards... I'm not keen to go down that road as it's a one shot thing.

Anybody used anything different?

Thanks Sean, I found an old post on. Net by Southernboy... Seems he went for a hot glue gun too.

His only concern was whether it would hold in the heat of the summer... He's in South Africa though isn't he? Bit warmer there I would think.

I used a combination of hot glue and small self tappers.

You get a similar problem if you try and change the front bumper grille. You have to dremmel the circlips off, that melts the plastic stalks from the heat generated and then you have to glue the replacement back on. I used araldite as it was external and jobs been a good'un.

I used a glue gun when I replaced wrapped mine, cut the tabs off then clamped it all back together and filled the tabs with hot glue. Sticks really well, I've had one off recently to re-glue as it did come a little loose in the middle.

Sweet. I am wanting to put mesh behind my grill [it is an open type grill which allows crap to blow right onto the radiator] and didn't want to cut those little blighters off. Now I might just put the mesh on and apply a glue, maybe hot, or SikaFlex on there. Thanks for the idea.

I have them OEM on mine and they are an absolute bi*** to keep clean. They are always full of stains, are you sure you want to do it?
Yeah they are fingerprint magnets for sure... But I like the way they look with red leather.. besides I've got a ban on sticky fingers and general sweatiness in the car.

I used the cheap eBay starclips in the end... The 5mm was almost there so I used a screwdriver and light hammer to open the teeth very slightly. It was laborious to alter all 36 but they are easily changeable now and no worries with them coming loose.
