After much encouragement from friends on a FB forum I invested in a DA polisher, asked a million questions and did a lot of Youtube training, mainly from a guy called ammonyc.

Yesterday I had my first go at it. I really just did a polish then sealed it [very light cut]. I am very happy with the outcome and next time I will do some real paint correction on the wife's black Suzuki Vitara. The Zed is about 80% of what I am after so next time I will out the extra effort in and get her closer to 100.

Hope you like the photos. The reflections in the bonnet is the insulation in the shed roof, not imperfections! :)

...................you could also have asked @M666BMG as he is our non pro detail guru on here and knows his stuff.
I understand he works on the basis if it doesn't move polish it and it doesn't move much;)
Great finish @Cooper - well done.

Awesome shine Coops, like the shed too. Lots of room for polishing.

Tony.

Looks nice, what polish and sealant did you use in the process?

Hi @Summit Detailing [Chris], this is what I got https://www.carcareproducts.com.au/product/car_care_products/ro_polisher_das6_kit_plus

The complete kit came with a sampler pack [enough for many paint corrections] by Menzerna and the sealer was... well have a look at the picture below. It is probably not the best stuff as I have no experience with this so the purchase was made on trust and good marketing. I did a lot of research and customer reviews though :) I am happy and don't plan on purchasing thousands of dollars worth of stuff which is really easy to do! Hahaha.

What's a set up like that worth @Cooper ? Looks pretty good and did a great job! JIM
Hi. It cost AUD384 delivered which is about 192GBP. Delivery alone was about 20GBP. Those of us in the USA can get the equivalent cheaper as Australia is quite expensive.

I will do the wife's car soon but with a more aggressive approach as a detailer put so many swirls in it that I cannot bear looking at it when it is clean and in the sun.

Hey Jim, I was just thinking about the costs and outcome. To be honest the job I did would be worth about $200 or so even though I spent about 4 hours on the job. A professional detailer would have plenty of constructive criticism for me! There is no substitute for experience and training. It is also very hard on the back and I am in the market for a velcro back brace before I tackle the wife's car.

I will get my money back on the investment once I have mastered the techniques for doing a great job and then redo the zed. If someone wants their car looking perfect and doesn't want to go through the training and time to do this it would be better to pay about 700 or so and get a professional.

I am catching the detailing bug which I was warned about! Haha. I am even tempted to have a go on the boot lid for @FluxMorz Car! If he wants it done as a teaser.

Have a great day.

I found the same thing once I started restoring and polishing stainless and aluminium trim for my old cars. I can lose hours upon hours polishing. Still have to develop using the DA though. Looks like you have a good foundation started though! How is @FluxMorz? I'm still waiting for those pizzAs I ordered last year!! lol. JIM

Good stuff, the Menz polishes should see you well on most paint finishes, FG400 isn't hugely abrasive compared to other brands and their compounds but is oily enough to make it easy for a newbie wielding a DA:thumbsup:

Duragloss is a brand that flies very much under the radar here in the UK, #111 contains some fillers but again 10/10 for ease of use & gives a decent level of protection on it's own or can be topped with a wax to lock in the fillers and add an extra layer(s) of protection.

Enjoy the detailing bug & give me a shout if you need any help:thumbsup:

Cheers

Chris
