The only way I can think of to make sure your fuel level is low enough is to drain the tank. Either by symphoning it out or disconnecting the pipe to the front and attaching a suction pump there.

Well on the fuel sender problem I filled the tank and iv done 142 miles is it safe to take the sender out or not yet ?

What is your average MPG? How much does your tank hold?

Tony.

I reckon you should be at least 220 - 250 miles before you take it out. Can anyone in the [USERGROUP=12]@M44 Massive[/USERGROUP] confirm the tank range pls?

Combined MPG for the M44 is 35.3. Tank capacity is 51ltr.( 11.23 Gal)
So having done 142 miles I reckon that you've used 4.02 Gallons, that means the tank is still 2/3 full (approx). I think to be safe you still need to get some fuel out before removing the sender unit.

From just above red to full is ~9 gallon on mine. On road trips I get about 300mile from full to around the 1/4 marker but obviously that varies with driving conditions. HTH

I think I would, Dean, isn't it? I would hate for you to have what happened to a mate in his Mini Clubman many years ago. The sender was in the side of the tank, which was in the side of the boot space, and the locking ring got knocked round by something in his boot and he ended up with about 4 gallons of petrol all over the whole floor and carpets.:(:(

So if I stretch it to 220 it should be low enough to take it out il carry some fuel round in a Gerry can just incase I run out of fuel

You wont run out of fuel after 220 miles. You should be good for nigh on 300

Does the low fuel light still work Dean? I'm guessing it won't if the gauge isn't working.

Tony.

Great news that you are keeping your Z :p
Enjoy ;)

Even my 2.8 could squeeze over 300 on a tank, take a Gerry can around and be brave!

I removed the fuel sender unit for you yesterday and can confirm that even a few litres of fuel in the tank makes an amazing mess!

Seat bushes require some patience, but easy once you've done one, there are 4 to do, the how to guide is excellent.
Top tip is to read the bit about the position the seat needs to be in when removed!

Best of luck, plenty of people on here have done it so you'll be fine, most people on here are insane!
