checked the dtcs in my car this evening (1998 z3 2.8 ) and found code 37 and 53.
37 is o2 sensor or heater, cylinders 4-6 I’m slightly confused because looking at my exhaust I only have 1 o2 sensor ??? There’s none in the manifolds just the one pre cat which would serve all 6 cylinders.

And then fault code 53 crankshaft sensor
Previous experience on other car brands I’ve been taken down the garden path where crank codes have been logged for a cam sensor just want to check BMW’s don’t do that lol.

Cheers Ryan.

I got that on my 2000 Z3 2.0 Ryan, changed it with no improvement and ended up changing the inlet cam sensor. The O2 sensor will be a 4 wire connections. One of the wires should have a 12v live with ignition on (the heater circuit)

The 2 sensors were for American market and different emission laws.
Not sure on 2.8 but on the M44 realoem actually shows 2 sensors but there is definitely only one pre cat.
It could be an historical code - have you tried clearing it and see whether it re-appears?
