I'm not proud of this but it has happened for the first time since I've owned the Zed.
First thing:- My fault, I assumed the washers were working but they weren't. The washer bottle was bunged up with sludge again. I cleared it out thoroughly about a year ago, must have had some duff screen wash, it was like a load of jelly.
Second:- I know this has never been touched since I have owned the car. The headlight levelling switch did not operate on the near side headlight. Never heard of a car failing on that before.
I took the light apart and adjusted the rod that connects the motor to the light, all good now.

Good news Alan.

Never heard about the headlight levelling being part of the MOT. @t-tony .. thoughts ?

Automatic level system only applies to vehicle with led/ hid headlamp units
Manual level devices should be checked for up and down and switch return to original position.

Test criteria has changed because you used to test beam aim and if it was OK that was that. You only used the headlight adjuster if they were out of alignment. Before that you had to ensure that the manual adjuster was a t maximum height before testing the aim. One day they will make up their mind.

Yeah it was on the last update .
Was at work so skimmed the thread and then replied before I thought about it .
So had to change it :oops::oops:

Will have to make sure mine are working then. If they don’t have a switch but a blank plate. Is it a pass or a fail ;)

It's a fail Paul, I've looked on the testers forum and there is a case where the car had a switch and the headlights had no motors, (replacement lights) The owner wanted to blank the switch and that was refused.

Glad it was something relatively simple and you were able to get it sorted Alan. Surprising, how it's the "silly" little things that catch us out. Ours failed last year because the TPMS light was on. Nothing wrong with the pressures, but it was a quick fix.

I suspect there is a grey area here. I have not yet read the latest draft yet.
My car has a manual alignment control, but, it also moves up and down when you turn on the light EVEN THOUGH my cars does not have HID or LED headlights. Unless it states that if a vehicle was produced with aim adjusters they must be tested (cannot be removed) I cant see how this applies. If the adjusters have been removed and the aim is correct it should pass. I'm going to read up on this.

Tony it would only fail if fitted and not working .
The manual only says test ' if fitted ' so if properly removed then should not even be a testable item .

So in my experience of the MOT, "If fitted" means if the whole system is fitted. IF the control apparatus ie switch is removed, then the whole system is not fitted and cannot be operated. Therefore if the lights are aimed correctly AND are secure so that they cannot move it should be pass and advise.

Glad it got the pass Alan. Take the tank out and fill it with a bleach solution.....that should kill anything lurking in the washer system

Milton Baby bottle sterilizer is the best stuff. Better than bleach. I did the Oil Burner's washer system last year after it developed the "Stink".
