Facebook rant, any experts on here?

Hi Folks

I thought I'd post this as I found something out that's out of order.

I love FB but I keep my friends list small, family, people I'd actually go for a coffee with.

I thought my privacy settings were set as to give me the most privacy one could expect, photos only visible to friends etc...

Now this is what's happened.

An old girlfriend requested me, I didn't accept.

4 months down the line she has "liked" two of my photos.

So she's got access to my photos simply by sending me a friend request.

Surely that's not right?

Anyone who finds my profile (only if they have a mutual friend can they find me) can only see my profile pic, nothing else.

Any input from an expert grateful, FB is the only way of keeping in touch with distant family, but with this happening I'll have to delete my account.

If the photos in question are cover photos you can not keep them private as everyone who uses facebook has access to all cover photos
 
All others apart from cover photos are hidden at your request.
 
They're not cover photos, it's the album I posted after a recent holiday.
 
Maybe she has a mutual friend Tim? Mind you if you have complete lockdown apart from your friends list it is an odd one.
 
Hang fire I've asked the wife, she's good with Facebook.
 
I've tested it a few times, got people to look me up, they can only see my profile pic and cover photo.

She has a couple of mutual friends, but so do some of the other scumbags that have sent me requests in the past, I'd be mortified if they could see pictures of my kids etc..

Go on your friends list, there should be an option to see "followers" she may be following you but I'm not sure that she should be able to see your pics,
You can also search to see how someone can see your profile, not sure where it is at the minute its called "view profile as a specific person" (google it)
This will let you see your profile as they see it.
 
Another bit of info mate.


You can never be invisible - just not accessable. Theres a way to even block folk friend requesting - it will be in the fb account settings somewhere.
 
I point blank refuse to open a Facebook account. Had a problem a few years ago through Friends Reunited so deleted my account there and wont open a social media account anywhere else. I'm on a few internet forums and as yet haven't given myself any grief so I'll use them until such a time, and that includes this forum.

There are other ways of staying in contact with the world, you don't need social media. What's wrong with email, phone or letter?

My best mate moved to Italy 5yrs ago and announced that he would only communicate with friends in the UK via Facebook. Haven't spoken to him since.

I'm not so worried about her, more the requests I've had in the past from people I've dealt with in a previous job, it could potentially put my kids at risk. I can't remember them all now so won't be able to block them all.

Haha there from the wife! Hope you can get it sorted. I use WhatsApp a lot to stay in touch with people here and abroad.

To be honest, if you want to share photos with friends and family "Instagram" is the safest platform, in fact its pretty water tight, you either accept people or you don't and they can't see a thing if not accepted, you also have a user name that does not relate to you.

Thank you Sean, I'll have a look to she if she's following me, but it's the others I'm really worried about.

My profile to a "non friend" def shows only the profile pic and cover photo.

It'll be a shame to give it up, so nice to stay in touch with distant family and share pics etc.

Thats really strange how she could have liked them,
 
I am not and never have been on FB, simply because it seems that you have to ‘Share’ everything, and everyone has access to your life!
My wife has family and a couple of close friends on her account, and the amount of crap that she gets is unbelievable.
Most is from people she’s never heard of, and despite trying to block, delete, remove etc all these, they reappear again a few days or weeks later. I was told it’s because the family liking stuff creates some sort of link back to their contacts??????
Unfortunately she has to put up with it as some family live in Doha, and others in Norway, and she likes to keep in touch.

If you go into your settings to be fair its fairly self explanatory, remember to also stop anyone following you. Set it to only friends can see or comment on posts etc. Not friends of friends.
