Extra luggage space

Doing a trip down to Austria next summer & think we might carrying more than the usual capacity for the Zed so was wondering if anyone has ever tried these

I've seen a few of these while travelling but never in the flesh. The only concern I would have is from the security aspect as it's quite vulnerable if you leave it on the car when it's out of site. Those straps will be easy to cut I would imagine.

Never tried one as has been said i would be worried when stopping anywhere for a walk round. We have never had any issue with packing when we have gone to Europe.We have 3 cabin cases 1 for me 2 for her that we put our clothes in and 2 rucksacks 1 each mine is for the chargers kettle and other stuff 1 for her which i call the one for the Lady Beauty Parlor Shop and we have 1 small holdall for additional clothing. We too are going to Austria next Summer.

Great idea and great size though

If you're leaving the car I don't suppose it would take long to remove it and put it inside the car.
We want to do some long distance trips so I had thought about something like this.

Is obstructing the third brake light an offence?
It would definitely do so on the E89.

Not sure on the legality of covering the 3rd brake light up Ian. But taking it off and popping it in the car seems an easy option when leaving it for a bit.

My thought too. Put some tape along the edge to protect it should work though.

If you drive down the western side of France to Spain there are lots of young women just standing around with the shortest dresses i have seen they always seem to be just outside the villages.

They look like a good idea but the pitfalls have been high lighted above, looks a bit of a faff if you need to take it off every time you stop for a walk, have you considered a removable rack, your welcome to borrow mine but you are quite far away,

@Mint and @Mrs Mint are travelling God's, they create extra boot space by placing the tonneau cover behind the seats and a plastic box full of sundries under the mat in the passenger side. This leaves what is already a big boot (for a two seater) loads of room for your stuff with no boot rack required.

I think that, for what they are, are rather overpriced, really you can make one yourself with 3 cargo belts and a kitchen top anti-slip mat.
For that amount I'd rather put on a standard boot rack, there here below are also quite stylish.

Plus I've read somewhere they can fit the original very '90 hard case that came with the Z3 as original accessory...

Yes did have one and I really liked it, used it only once thou I suggest you get the small model as I had the larger one and when full is difficult to pick up, the smaller model would be much easier to handle pity I moved it on you could have borrow it, smaller model is about the same size as a large suit case so plenty of room. oh and did not move when making good progress

Just need to point out that the box under the mat in the foot well only works if your other half is short in stature
When we went to Andorra we managed to pack clothes and walking stuff (boots, pole and backpacks) also some basic food stuff as we were self catering. Have trial run at packing @mid life crisis i think you'll be surprised at what you can get in. We found a trolley case (the size you take as hand luggage on a plane) and a soft travel bag seem to fit well in the boot.

I suppose it depends on what sort of holiday you have, if you need posh clothes you may need a trailer lol

Looks like a very neat solution - don't leave the car unattended though while your luggage is on board!

David with the smaller bag you should be able to remove it and place it inside the car if necessary it will straddle both seats.
