I thought I would post this thread up get a bit of feedback or criticism ( I'm a big boy I can take it on the chin
) whatever you guys out there think .
So for a bit now I have been messing around with Thermochronic ink ( screen printing ink ) to bring to fruition a few ideas that I had .
So to set the picture I had seen a video on YouTube that gave me the initial inspiration
So as I had rebuilt Lynne's engine last year I still have a full set of casings ( timing cover ,rocker cover etc ) and a set of manifold etc I dug out the manifold top section ( as I reckoned this was easily removed and refitted) so got the drill out wire wheeled the manifold and painted it in grey primer .
Bought a 50 ml sample pack consistently wise it is quite like the paint in the bottle used to get at primary school anyway used a brush painted on
Got a couple of coats on before ran out of paint then decided to paint the lines on the top yellow and then lacquered the lot to seal it
At this point all looking good so fitted to car
Proof would be the durability against the heat etc of an engine bay so fired it up took a quick run
This is where the 1st problems started to manifest themselves the green flip colour is much more transparent than the sea blue so when hot you could see all the brush marks and the different levels of paint depth ( it is currently still on as durability experiment still ongoing)
So I had to come up with a new plan or it was never going to look half decent so decided not to be beaten af the 1st hurdle so started prepping the rocker cover for experiment number 2
So same thing wire wheeled it all
Then done it all in primer
Then as the green more see through went for a green base coat
So that all done I was happy with the way things were going next problem was going to be getting a better application of the thermochromic ink ( on the website I bought from said could be thinned a bit with distilled water) .
So on to Ebay bought a mini spray gun and some distilled water bought 250 ml of thermo ink measured 100 ml into a jug took 8 tablespoons of water to thin it enough that I thought it may spray properly so rattled on a few coats till ran out ink thought for a while thought wasn't going to dry ( thought I'd put too much water in )but eventually it did so again painted up the lines on top and lacquered ( looking to see how the various paints react with each other) gave the plastic plug lead cover a quick refurb ready to fit it all
So got it all fitted took quick run
Thhs was earlier in before I had finished the plug cover
Definitely a lot more pleased with the finish now to see if it lasts
.
Watch this space some yellow to orange flip brake calipers got my sights on.
