Exhaust welding

Hi all, I'm looking for a little advice please. I purchased a 2nd hand Powerflow Exhaust for my 2.8 Z3 without realising the implications of fitting it!!!

I just naturally assumed that there would be the usual flanges and gaskets and it would therefore be a simple swap, but I've discovered that it looks like it needs to be a welding job, something I still haven't got to grips with yet, despite owning a MIG welder for many years.

Does anybody know of someone in the Merseyside/Cheshire area who can do this job? It looks like a simple job for someone who is competent but I daren't even try it just yet.

I can't work out where it needs to join from the pictures but can you not cut it in and put a sleeve over the join?

If its like mine it will join after the y piece wanted mine flanged but just not that much space.

Thats a pretty good idea, I'm assuming theres no chance of it coming apart as long as its tight enough. Would it be an idea to use some kind of exhaust paste to cover any potential gaps?

If its like mine it will join after the y piece wanted mine flanged but just not that much space.

Did you do the same as Mor61e advised or did you have it welded?

We use these in the ZedShed with decent results. Plenty of exhaust paste to ensure you get a good seal and you should be perfectly fine!

Mine was welded by the guys that did the exhaust fit. I asked if it could be flanged but they advised that it was an expense. If the cats ever went with out the new ones they advised how would you know where to flange it?
Fair comment i suppose but its one piece front to back like the original.

That clamp style is what holds all modern vag group cars exhausts (cat to centre ) together. As long as your pipes about same diameter is just a case of cut original fit new one with sleeve and assembly paste .

You will have to offer it up and see whats possible you may find there isn't a straight bit of pipe for you to sleve too.
The y piece drops straight into the middle box on your old system but that box itself bends.
The new one is straight so the angle of the fit is quite different.
Hopefully it will not be too bad but on pics there is nothing striaght before the middle box to flange too.

The angle of the original picture is deceiving...there is a little space there, whether its enough remains to be seen, once I've raised the car I can get a better look. I've had an initial quote of around £70 to weld the new piece on.
