Hi, I want to ask about my exhaust on my 1998 BMW Z3 1.9. The exhaust, have attached pictures to help too.

I don't know whether it's loud or it's normal. When I initially got it, there was a bit of rattling, which I think was maybe rust in the middle box , but that seems to have died down after some miles.

But I've got a couple of issues. I don't know, should the exhaust be this loud? And there is a little bit of bubbling when I had it up on the ramp at the rear of middle box. I just need to know if anyone can tell me, is this a custom exhaust? Should it be making this noise? Just some guidance really the I was thinking I could maybe then get it looked at. I would really appreciate any help thx

It certainly looks like it's had a replacement aftermarket exhaust system fitted fairly recently. Can you see a brand name on the red sticker on the Cat?
None genuine exhausts are quite often louder, a "raspy" noise compared to an original one.

Thanks for this I can't quite see it in pics and sticker ripped.. yeah I have another Z3 2000 and it is quieter the raspy sound is more like it I guess.. you think I should make take it to a exhaust specialist and let them give it once over.. I was hoping it's all good and the noise is fine and just make sure it's ok the bubbling I assume could just be patched up

Is there a hole or gap. In the weld on the middle silencer,? Looks like something on the pic.

Had it looked at today — was told it’s okay, but there’s a minuscule leak in the mid-box and a loose bit of the cat in the back box, causing a small rattle, which I don’t think can be removed or broken down. Also noticed the front exhaust bracket is missing. Does anyone know which part I’d need for that? Would exhaust sealant be a good temporary fix for the mid-box leak too?
