Hi all,

I have a z3 2.8.

I'm looking for an exhaust as mine is blowing.

I have been toying with a custom built exhaust. The guy I have seen said he can do a straight through system with a small silencer (no boxes) for a reasonable price.

I worry if this will be too loud. Has anyone else had similar done. (No muffler boxes etc)

My other option is eBay standard systems but they all come with single exit tail pipe. I want the twin exits really.

These are the eBay exhausts...

Hi Nathan, I dont know which part of the country you are but powerflow exhausts have various outlets all over the place, check their website.
Anyway I understand they will make you a stainless system from the cat back, you can choose your tailpipes / noise for about £400
Been toying with the idea myself :-)
Loads of posts on here just do a search

The place I am looking at is an ex power flow place. Very local to me.

Cat back is £300 and with only the small silencer it will be £220.

I am just worried that cat back with small silencer will be too loud.

Hopefully someone can put me straight about how loud it will be.

It's not a daily but eventually will be a show car.

I have recently had quotes from Custom Chrome and Powerflow for a stainless "cat back" system. That is from after the cat(s) to the tail pipe. one was £320 the other £360; this to get a near original sounding exhaust with twin pipes. A good fabricator should be able to get the sound you require. My main criteria was to avoid "boom" at 2000 to 3000 rpm so cruising speed would be comfortable, I was advised that some baffling in the rear box would be required to achieve this.

In getting this checked out I noticed that the actual blow was from where the small front silencer box joins the rear pipe. The main (rear) silencer has no visible rust although I am sure the internals will be deteriorating. When I run the car it generally will be for a minimum of 20 miles and the exhaust gets well heated, so conditions are not likely to cause rapid rusting. With this in mind last weekend a generous amount of exhaust putty was applied and we will see how long that delays the need to invest in a new system.

My experience with other cars over many years has been that aftermarket mild steel exhausts will only last a couple of years in normal daily driving. Consider how hard your typical journey is on the exhaust and decide what is best for you from there.

This is a stainless system for £220 but only a small silencer. No rear box.

£300 with a rear box.

I think I would prefer a custom system than the eBay mild steel ones. Just worried about the noise but the £220 system is appealing.

I'm about to buy a s/s exhaust and get one made but mines the 2 exhaust version all the way to the back so its going to cost extra, also I have e-mailed them to ask what the middle bits with the 2 cats will cost be he's not e-mailed me back, I'm sure its them that are rattling at low revs.

Hi

I had a cat back done yesterday in Doncaster. Custom made, took 2 hours using Proflow bits. Cost £280.00.
Sound great!
Only concern is might be bit too loud on long use.
Gonna speak to them tomorrow and ask if they can alter a little as they said any problems just call.
