The C-in-C just took the TD4 to the car wash to get the sand off, the Pikeys are doing a "Saharah Special", making a killing. Genius 
I was down in Portsmouth yesterday and it reached there even though southern England hasn't been mentioned much in the media.
I think rather than the sand causing a glow it filtered the blue light, leaving more red light apparent.

They are saying over here that the "watery sun" today is caused by the forest fires in Portugal & Spain and Sahara sand.

It's not good there even in normal summers everything is dry so it must burn very easily

I'll bet she had to turn the radio up to drown out the grinding noise of sand on lacquer
