Euro 2016

If as it seems that Russian yobs (not supporters) and some French were responsible for organising and instigating the violence then they should be excluded from their next one or two games. Any more trouble from them outside the ground the team goes home immediately. Should apply to any team including us and the French. Put the football back centre stage -have some guts EUFA and act now and act decisively before some gets killed.
Sad that it seems it was the English that were drawn into it - I'm sure there would have been intelligence if it was pre-organised and I bet there are police under cover in the midst of the supporters too. Can't stop a small group kicking off but this is too great a scale - the way the French police deal with it is very different than here but pictures of English then standing toe to toe with the police doesn't help. Only the Brit police are going to ask "would you kindly move on?" The French won't look to check your nationality - everyone gets the same treatment. Simply Best not to be around if you can. Stand up to them they will put you down then ask questions.
Agreed, English Police are the best in the World at this type of thing as sadly they've had decades of practice to hone their crowd control at football matches, the "show of strength" doesn't always work. You can't treat everybody the same.

millions continue to support over rated, usually brainless over paid jerk's kicking a ball round a field. Why?

Because it (along with cricket) were the sports my mum and dad loved and I was brought up with. It's been in my DNA as long as I can remember. I still remember falling off the settee celebrating the goal at the end of the World Cup Final in 1966.....I was 6 years old. I will never forgive my dear departed dad for not letting me stay up to watch the 1968 European Cup Final. There are things about the game and what surrounds it that I don't like but they aren't going to change if I stop watching.

Our experiences in life lead us all in different directions in terms of our jobs and interests. It would be a boring world if that weren't so.

I never have and never would take a personal dig at anyone Gail as I'd like to think you are aware but I get fed up to the back teeth of the same news surrounding football be it local rivelry or a big world/euro events. There so many sporting/music events that get little or no coverage yet this so called beautiful game gets Billions of pounds thrown at it at an alarming rate. I just feel the money could be better spent elsewhere, it would also save the police and general public the the trouble and worries it brings with it.

100%agree I'm not a footy fan but if I had the skill to play and entertain so many people for a short span in my life I'd take the money, and it doesn't matter where your ,from what background you are from or the quality of your education if you have the skill.Good luck to them I say .The problem is lack of respect and understanding of others culture and way of life and if they do ignoring it.just because I walk into our house with muddy boots,I wouldn't expect to do it in yours.Come on England show us your best side.dont let the few bring you down.

Of course I know you wouldn't intend anything to be taken as a personal dig @Grumpy
You asked an open question to which I gave a personal answer.

I agree that there are many other events which should get more coverage and some of them I might even watch....but only if there's no cricket on because that's my main sporting passion. ;)

When I was younger there were many more local dances and music gigs there was always the opertunity for fighting country v townies, village v village a guy got stabbed and killed right in front of me for nothing in a local gig .Go to any city street on a weekend in this country it's a culture thing it's not like this on the continent .stop people going out at night it would save the police and general public the trouble and worries it brings with it.

I've been to loads of football matches with my son, Wembley play off final (Reading v Swansea), FA Cup Semi Final (Reading v Arsenal) and a couple of internationals. The Emirates Cup at the Emirates and loads of games at the Madjeski Stadium, Reading. Not a hint of trouble at any games. This stuff is orchestrated by "proffesional" thugs for a variety of reasons and sadly the pack mentality and beer drag otherwise normal people in. No differant to the Poll Tax riots etc where thousands of normal people were protesting and "rent a mob" kicked it all off. The vast majority of English supporters are only there for the atmosphere and the game. That said, I'm not looking to going to Paris later this month for work!

And that is the downside to it Andy, because you're English, until people get to know you, you will be tarred with the same brush. Alcohol is the main ingredient in this organised violence and because of there all being in Europe these idiots have all day to get fuelled up ready for any fighting which comes along.

Tony.

Indeed mate. US Service personnel actually get issued with a card when posted to the UK stating;

Don't drink with the British
Don't gamble with the British
Don't fight with the British
You will lose!

Says a lot really and for all the wrong reasons :(

How sad is that?:(:(:(

Tony.

Not since Mansell and Pique???

Tony.

No fighting in Rugby (other than on the pitch and nothing wrong with that) and as for cricket, I seem to remember some trouble kicking off a few years ago?

A company I worked for used to sponsor a Rugby club over here called RC Diok, we used to go to the game in a mini bus full of beer, hit the free bar while watching the game, on the way home drink the rest, never saw a punch thrown off the pitch.
