I collected my z3 on Saturday and since getting it, i've been focused on the engine temp gauge. The engine seems to get warm quite quick, but when it gets to the mid point of the gauge, it stays there at around 12 o'clock.
When I say it gets warm quickly, it gets to the operating temperature within 5 mls of setting off on a spring day.
Its a 2.2 2002 Z3.

I've plugged in a OBD reader in the port under the steering wheel and there are no faults stored.

Am I being paranoid? Should it get to operating temperature so quickly? I don;t drive it like I stole it, just normal setting off and cruising.

Mine is an M and get up to water temp very quickly even ticking over from cold. Be aware though the oil temp takes a lot lot longer so dont thrash it from just starting just on the water temp showing normal :thumbsup:

Yup, my 2.8 gets up to temp pronto too and stays at 12 o'clock. No issues.

They do warm up very quickly but as long as the needle stays in the middle there is nothing to worry about. That is just an efficient system.

70 degrees and temperature guage is on middle and stays there until over 100 degrees.... Its the way the ecu interperates the temperature sensor... Its a BMW thing has a big dead spot there... I monitor my temperature with an android app

Use the hidden menu in the instrument pod to view the temp when driving, details on how to is on this forum, try a search for hidden menu, will have a look and post a link. Using that will give you a clear idea on how yours is performing with numerical degrees that you can cross check with your temp guage display.
