Now I wonder if I could fit a RR Merlin in my Zed, that would sound awesome, but I think I would need a filling station every 500 yards :whistle:.

Wasn't there a guy back in the 80s that had a Meteor/Merlin engine in a fairly normal-looking road car? Can't remember his name, but I'm sure I remember he was some kind of auto-gearbox specialist. It'll come back to me around 3ish tomorrow morning, no doubt.
Didn't have to wait that long.https://www.classicdriver.com/en/ar...in-engined-monstrosity-infuriated-rolls-royce
And somewhere on Bimmerforums there's a madman who fitted a V12 in a Z3. With twin turbos.:wideyed::wideyed::wideyed:

After about 40 years of hot rodding I've found the best tool to start with is a tape measure. Once you know exactly how much room you have and where it is you can always find an engine that will fit your space. Thennthe fun starts as you try to figure out electrics, exhausts, etc. Was much easier before all the FI stuff showed up as well as the computers governing everything. I've a 77 Mercedes 300D sitting in my shop if someone wants to try sticking it into a Z3. I would if I was younger but now it's a chore to pump gas!! JIM

The man's name was John Dodd IIRC Mick, and he fitted the engine into a car he created and he fitted a genuine RR Grille which they made him remove from the car. I don't recall the GPM but it wasn't many.;) Oh, and it was further back than you want to think mate, 70's !!

Tony.

He also had sponsors paying for his fuel, at 2mpg he'd have to have them. Must have had quite the exhaust noise!! JIM

Damn, thought I'd forgotten the 70s. Obviously didn't do enough in the 80s to wipe my mind clean. Must have had some size of fuel tank to cope with 2mpg, could be worse, back then I was a tank mechanic specialising in the few remaining Centurions, they used the 27 litre Meteor engine (downrated Merlin) and could manage 4gpm. Yep, 4 gallons per mile. Lord only knows what the road tax would be on one of them. Luckily that was before they invented emissions.:whistle:
