Many thanks jane

Hi Jane, you've answered your own question with M44. The only other 1.9 variant fitted to the Z3 was the M43 which has around 118bhp.

Good news is that there are usually plenty of M44's available off eBay. Out of interest, what is up with your current engine?

The 1.9 m44 engine ( twin cam ) 140 bhp
The 1.9 m43 engine (single cam ) 118 bhp

This is a picture of my m43 if you ha ve an m44 already the difference will be obvious

Engine boiling its head off have tried it with the thermostat out and checked the pump it's ok looks like either head gasket or cracked head. My worse half does all the work on it.

Thanks for the pic can see the differance have u any information on the differance between auto & manual engines

Usually the difference is not the engine but the drive plate on the end of the crankshaft. In a manual car you will have the heavy dual mass flywheel but in an Auto you will have a thin steel plate which the torque converter is bolted to.

Tony.

I would imagine no engine difference itself it would all be the transmission and maybe the bolt on bits, fly wheel etc but you'll have whats needed.
Pretty sure they arnt different or bmw would have a different name number to the unit if it was different...
