I wouldn't do anyone else's car just because but would gladly lend them my equipment and supervise their first attempt. Steam is good for caked on grease/oil and removes it quickly so you can find the leaks and make it a regular upkeep thing. We have a lot of gravel here so engine compartment gets dirty quickly even under it's cover! So a good vacuum comes in handy as well as I use waterless cleaner to maintain. Easy wipe on wipe off like your scrubbing bubbles but does contain some carnauba wax! JIM
 
After spraying crap all over the engine bay on the Rover today I cleaned under the bonnet with @t-tony "scrubbing bubbles"! Was a proper mess.
Sprayed it on, left it 5 minutes to do whatever it does, gave it a gentle rub and washed it off. Excellent results! Not a pressure washer in sight.
