Electric roof problems Again!

Hi I am new to this forum and to my Z3m 2000

I know roof problems have been covered before but I can't find anything to answer my issue.

The electric roof only opens half way (age old problem) The micro switch is working, I have replaced the pump and there is the correct amount of fluid in it. When I disconnect the ram from the roof frame the ram goes up and down all the way without a problem.

Is there another micro switch somewhere? or does anyone know the cause of the problem?

your views would be appreciated.

There is only one microswitch, however sometimes the front lip of the roof slips back and deactivates it.
Just try pushing the front of the roof up slightly again when it stops to see if it starts again.
Then its a problem with the switch being deactivated.

Another thing to check, when the ram is disconnected will the roof go up and down easily, or is the frame stiff/twisted?

last thing to check is, do the brake lights stay on all through, or go off when it stops, then that is a brake pedal switch issue.

PS. welcome to the forum..

Thanks for your reply,
The switch is fine I can hear it switching on and off.
When the ram is disconnected or the pressure released on the pump the roof goes up and down without a problem.
The brake lights stay on when the roof stops.

I just tried disconnecting the ram off the roof when the roof is down and then tried the electric and the ram goes up and down without a problem when I connect it back up it goes about 6 inches then stops (pump stops making a noise as well) and won't go down. This should rule out the micro switch as well.

I think I've fixed it, I by-passed the micro switch at the connection by the ram and the roof works fine so there must be a break in the wire, just as I got this far it started raining so will have to replace the wire tomorrow.

I hope the problem and remedy may be of help to others.

and thats the one I forgot to mention.. a break in the wire, which in effect is the same as the front of the roof flopping forward and deactivating the microswitch,.. DOH

Remember to get it fixed asap, as opening the roof is now possible without lifting the front, or the front flopping forward part way through opening, which will twist the frame... and that is not an easy fix afterwards...
