What do you think of this? My daughter has just bought a hat off Ebay, it arrived in an Amazon box, delivered by an Amazon truck. Inside the box was the hat and a gift note.
She was a bit taken aback, so she checked out the hat on Amazon, it was 25% cheaper, with the same listing pics and description. She then checked out some of his many other listings, they are all the same, all Amazon listings with a large mark up!
Needless to say she is not happy.

I'm finding just the opposite, that things on eBay are cheaper than the identical item on Amazon. I suppose someone has to pay for all those Amazon scam cold calls?

Tony.

Recently OH fancied some Extra Large Planter's on Amazon at just over £30 each

Read the reviews and one person gave them a good write up ---- and pointed out he bought his from bmstores at £10 each.

Guess were we got ours from.

Not really a scam though is it, they buy at a price and sell at a price as always buyer beware, its up to the buyer to check prices.
Happens with most things. Always check around, the amount of times I have got OEM stuff for the Z3 cheaper from the dealer than on Ebay! As the dealer once told me, "Where do you think they get the OEM parts from?"

Amazon is a business (albeit a mighty profitable one) but has its costs and investment to cover. It is a marketplace that sellers can use but have to pay to use for that investment. They can if they wish still however sell directly to customers at a cost lower than through Amazon but your unlikely then to get the next day free delivery etc. So yes, of course you can get things cheaper but you also have to do a like for like comparison on the service. Sellers use Amazon for the instant national and global reach. That is a massively powerful feature. They can bypass the selling and associated uplift costs but will have to undertake all the marketing and selling themselves. Customers then have to find them. It isn’t a scam. Amazon is successful for a reason. 👍

What is the scam?

Person finds a cheap source for an item. Same person finds someone prepared to pay 25% more for the same item. Person sells the item for 25% more than they paid for it.

That's capitalism :) .

Do you pay 30p for a tin of beans in Costco, or 60p for the same tin in Asda?
