Hello again guys,
I thought, after asking for advice I come back with some news.
After 2 trips to a BMW fan mechanic( i would call him a specialist, but he won't admit that...) I think we have it sorted. After a few hours of testing, research and more testing it turned out that it was a micro-switch that was working intermittently. initially he thought it needed an adjustment, but ultimately it got replaced. Yesterday I had my first trip with the roof down in 5 weeks ( not that the weather is allowing much of that in Ireland) and I enjoyed it ( temperature outside was only 11 deg Celsius ).
Just for a chat, so far I had to replace a fuse, the master windows control switches on the driver door, and now this micro-switch, all since Xmas 2020.
I had replaced my 19 style M326 ( absolutely gorgeous....) with 18" from an F07, because I found the ride very harsh ( ....and the rears 9J's had 2 cracks and 2 welds) and I fitted GoodYear Eagle F1 new rubber on them.
I am (now) loving the ride, the looks, the sound and there would be very few cars I would swap it with right now.
If I could I would replace the manual gear box with an auto, I don't find it too refined, and also the auto would probably make it for a faster/smoother gear change in everyday drive.
I have the 20i but I remapped it ( stage 1) to a 28i spec and I installed a K&N air filter ( oem shape, to fit in the standard set up).
I can't say it feels a lot faster, but frankly I don't really care, there is plenty of power there for the road, and I won't bring this one to the track just yet, as I have a mk1 Audi TT 225 quatro for that.
Thanks to you guys for the advice. special thanks to "Redline" for the tech book.
Ill try to keep up with you guys here, as you can see I love bragging about my Z4....
Stay cool...
P.S.-- the mechanic that fixed my Z4 drives a 2013 M6....... yeeeah....

It cost €200 in total. I think it wasn't necessary, but it is defo worth it.
