E89 Mobile Phone Cradle

Just looking to canvas opinion on the mobile phone cradle - I'm not a big fan of changing a car from it original spec but is there any point in purchasing a snap in adapter to utilise the cradle.

The car was produced in June 2013 so it has a DAB radio as standard along with the USB and Aux ports and I generally use Bluetooth to play music from my phone or the car's hard drive to play the pre-loaded CD's.

My only thought with the cradle is that it would enable album artwork which I don't appear to get with any of the methods mentioned above - the car also has option "S06NS Enhanced telephoney with extended smartphone connectivity" so again I'm thinking the cradle might provide additional functionality if I get a snap in adapter.

Ooooh cup holders ....lucky sod cant seem to find any second hand :whistle:
 
And someone on the E89 Facebook group has put me on to this wireless charger which looks like an ideal replacement and he assures me it fits the E89. Lovely

The obsolete 2013 phone cradle is now history and in its place is the new wireless charger - very pleased and my Galaxy S21 fits perfect. Not to big a departure from how it left the factory but much more relevant and more importantly provides secure storage for the phone out of the way while driving with the benefit of charging. The USB cable in the photo is connected to my Alexa Auto so I also have the benefit of handsfree music control.

It's attached to my Alexa Auto and plugged in to the USB port to provide power - it works with the armrest closed and recognises my voice without issue. Was a it dubious based on some of the re iews I had read but to be honest it's very good and lows me to select music via voice command without having to stop and select using the phone :thumbsup:
 
Thank you for that. That charging cradle seems a waste as standard.
