e85 3.0 manual gearbox fluid - red ?

i did a gearbox and back axle fluid change last weekend, and was surprised to find it was red fluid in the gearbox - any ideas what it might have been ? i have had the car for less than 12 months and no recent service history so its a case of trusting nothing and doing your own work so you know its done.

Sounds like ATF, My Z3M has the same

I know we always use a piece of garden hose to refill a box so I can say it's thin oil, not sue about colour.

Definitely red John, I found some left over from an oil change at the Shed in my cupboard this afternoon mate.

It will be ATF, some models use ATF others an oil 75W 80 gear oil. Cars had a label on the side of the gearbox indicating what type of fluid it should take. More than likely label has long since gone.Confirm what the car should take by looking in the swervice book o0r owners manual if you have them.
