New to us locally in France is a blue supermarket pump with e85, this I believe is ethanol based…. Anyway my wife put 20 liters of this in my 2.8z3 before realizing it was wrong🤔 I said top it up with the normal stuff and we will go from there. 50 miles so far and no problem….. this is going to happen a lot as it’s half price ?

Do you mean E10 or maybe E5? Never seen E85. Which ever it is it’s not going to hurt your engine or they wouldn’t be selling it.

I did Google it at tea break. Never heard of it before but seen a lot of cars with FlexFuel badges on the back over in the states but no one could tell me, in English, what that meant.
Apparently it runs much cooler than petrol.

So, be honest, is the price the reason your missus put that fuel in your car? I read that if you use it by mistake they recommend topping up 3 or 4 times with regular fuel.

Dont think we have it over here Tony, but like you seen it in the States - 15% ethonal not good at all - wont harm your car I wouldnt think but usual caveats apply. Low mpg and poor performance. Basically worse than E10 and I wouldnt use that either :cool:
 
E85 is 85 % ethanol 15 % gasoline.
In the states they have this ( and probably other countries as well)
Here in Uk our 95 ron standard unleaded is E10 and our super unleaded is E5
From what i know engines on new cars have to be tweaked to run properly on E85
I certainly would not run a 2.8 zed on it.
The 2.8 is meant to be ran on 98 ron super unleaded the owners handbook says you can run on 95 ron if you have to but the Ecu detunes the engine to achieve this.
I reckon running E85 for any length of time would destroy the cat as its not of a modern design.

As I said earlier it runs much cooler than normal fuel so the Cats would struggle to get to temp. from cold. I suspect the very low cost may be why it was chosen.

Do not use this sh*t.
we do not have it here (yet) but we have Bulgaria next door and many “clever” drivers were crossing the border to fill up with that stuff.
much more cheaper than normal (40% less) but 20% less efficient and dangerous.
not only they had worse mileage (about 300 km on a full tank vs 550 to 600 on regular) but most of them (the ones with old pre-2005 engines) destroyed their valve seals, rubber internals and even fuel hoses.
take my word for it or search the internet, this juice kills engines.

Like you say if you read up on it definitely not for our cars meant to be only for vehicles designated as a flex fuel vehicle Z3 especially would not take long to decide it was not happy running on it.
