Write Up DTEC 2016

For those of you who don't cross to the dark side, here's a video of the short jaunt that Deano, Bertiejaffa and I made just over a week ago. Door to door was 2786 miles and I need to do a vanos rebuild as mine now sounds like a bag of spanners. I've just got the spares from the good old USofA and Sytner's of Nottingham and that is £250 that I hadn't budgeted for, but it was still worth it .

I hope the youtube clip works. I copied the format from another post. If it doesn't, will some kind sole point me towards the instructions for posting youtube clips, please?

We deliberately missed out City of London, but there is a prize of a swift kick in the nads for the first person who spots the other one we missed out. Bertie and Deano have no need to panic as they would have done it on the way home .

If you are doing your vanos message me as there is little more to it than what the besian guys tell you in their instructions.

I calculated my fuel earlier this week...

523.28 litres of full fat fuel = 115.11 gallons

....thats £626.73 of fuel..

...2,796 miles...

....at an average of 24.29 mpg

We stopped at Mark's house and he took the top off then.

Re vanos. I've stripped down the system as far as I need to go. It's all off the car, but I'm not going to strip the vanos gears as I don't think there is anything wrong with them. I suspected what the fault was and I was proved correct. Beisan said that I would need to retard the cams to dismantle, but they were already retarded. When I tested the solenoids, one of them wasn't working. I've resoldered a weak joint and I've poured some epoxy in gap where the circuit board is. I'll see if the solution works in the morning after the epoxy has set. There may be another video over on the dark side in the near future .

Not at the moment. I'll just say that it is an "ongoing project". BMW have done their level best to make sure that I cannot replace a 5p capacitor, but I shall persevere .

@Mnbrennan is going to look in to possibly seeing if he can do mine as Sunny my ///M will be coming off the road after Silverstone Classic so it don't matter how long it takes
