Drain Pipe?

Just spotted this peeps. Rear right of the boot (trunk). Looks like a drain pipe but seems to short to be from the fuel filler drain? Any ideas please? TVM

Don't drink it though Andy. It's an offence to do that. They'll put you in a dry cell and charge you

Mine is the same Andy and I also have a Bosch battery fitted. Have been trying to work out exactly what drained down that pipe for some time. Thanks to Hugh I now know.

IIRC it is a vent tube for the older style batteries. It prevents an explosive mix building up in the enclosed boot space. When batteries are in the engine compartment there is sufficient natural ventilation.
