Done by an i3!

Electric cars are still too expensive, the cheapest is the VW Up but it's still over £20,000.
l've been looking at electric vans, but the range is barely 100 miles for most of them, and by the time you're finished they cost £50,000 and the diesel is £15,000 cheaper

Apparently most leisure rides are less
than 50 miles.

But you couldn't tour on it.
 
Living out here, it would be pretty marginal just getting to the nearest place (Bangor) with a reasonable range of shops. Not that I particularly like shopping, but it has to be done every now and again. Still, someone will sort out the range, the first cars weren't that wonderful, and they seem to have got better in the last 120 years. Unlike me.;)
 
Did any one see the Guy Martin thing the other night about electric cars he took a new Hyundai from his house near Hull? to John o Groats it nearly ran out at penrith makes intresting viewing especially the cost to charge them on the service station nearly twice the price of a diesel to cover the same distance and a lot longer in time
 
l expect electricity prices will rise as more people get electric vehicles.
Motorway charging points are indeed expensive, just like their fuel.
 
We have plug-in hybrid and have never used an outdoors public charging point. We only use the free ones at a local shopping centre in its underground car park. We pay the standard parking costs but the electricity is free. Every little helps.

However, my big question is about queueing for charging points; I know of none that are drive-through so what happens?
Charger rage at motorway service areas?
 
Fit a towbar and buy one of these .... ;)

No they never do, but sometimes they are "economical with the truth". Where did I hear that before.

Had the Tesla 3 years now - it's never needed a service and just been through it's first MOT which it initially failed because I'd left the dog cage in so the rear seat couldn't be secured :whistle:
I really wanted the i3 but it was to small and there was no way I was going to expose myself to the public charging network. Still prefer the look of the i3 but the public charging network doesn't seem to have improved in the last 3 years - the Tesla supercharger network really is different level.
Anyway I've lost count of how many cars I've done at the traffic light grand prix, we've been all over the UK in it including John O' Groats and the Mr's loves driving it.
That said as much as I like the Tesla it doesn't tick the driving for drivings sake box; for that I'm still in search of the perfect Zed - currently on number 15 hopefully soon to be 16 ;)

No chance - just been out in the rain for some wood for the stove and I think it serves as a good analogy to the discussion we are having here.
I could just put the radiators on but the stove is just better in so many ways - similarly I could go for a drive in the Peak District with the Tesla but I always choose the Zed :thumbsup:

electric is quick...

I went to Gt Yarmouth from Telford in it, 200 miles each way with 150 mile range, two top ups on the way, but 1.5 hours added onto a 4.5 hour petrol journey. cost me £6 at each charger., (plus coffees)
motorways kill the range, no regeneration from using brakes, almost top speed, and higher wind resistance than 30-40mph local journeys

Classed it as an adventure.
 
I wouldn’t worry about being done by an electric car….. since my two ‘recent’ speeding offences I get overtaken by mobility scooters =)) =))

I do quite like an Up. VW once gave me a loaner, they were most apologetic. I was dropping off my Phaeton, they said you've brought in the biggest saloon we make, we can only loan you the smallest. No I said, I take it as a free test drive ! I found it nice and nippy. I think its a great city car . . .

However, they dont sell many eUp's in Yorkshire though . . .
 
Andy there is a guy who we do work for his wife has an i3 he likes his toys used to have a ferrari 360 modena nice motor and he was saying that from a standing start to about 50 he couldn't keep up with the little bmw.
It will be a sad day when all fossil fuel vehicles get barred from use or pertrol becomes so scarce and expensive you wont want to drive it.
